I'm just curious. A friend saw my laptop and was wondering what if you wanted to use it as a desktop. Set the laptop away, hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse then set the laptop away while it's closed. If you power it off, is there a way to turn it back on without opening it.

probably via network wake up but not physically, but I do think that even when using it as a desktop it is better to have the lid open on the laptop due to heat build up.

Only via a network signal. If you have an R1 or R2, you can program a universal remote to the Alienware codes and use the remote to power the system on.
