god gawd man for 6k i hope the computer will do the 3d editing on its own and get you to level 1,000,000 in WOW :D. I think you are the first one that deserves the title of "BEAST" for your setup. Please post up specs so we can see how you did in the configuration. A little bit more money and you could have bought a car

It looks like he didn't bargain with them for the price and did a straight online config for the max specs. You should cancel the order, call Dell and bargain for a minimum 15% discount.

30% off, that's pretty good. how do you do that? or is it all the dr6500se's advice thread?

i wouldn't pay 4k either. i'd get it at the outlet for $2500.

Some posts do sound rude but I think most of us are just concerned he paid too much and should try bargaining to save money. In this economy, saving every dollar counts even on luxury items.

    it's so overpriced....

    base system - it's 1799
    nebula red - 100
i7 940XM - you can get brand new, sealed, for $850. you can get cheaper if you get an ES QS which is imvho the very same thing. anyway less $400
that's the UPGRADE price. you are paying 1250$ MORE. so it's 400less+i5 cpu that you can sell easily for $100.
Win7 Ult - 150 legit box retail versions sells for $100 less $50
    8GB RAM - branded 2x 4gb DDR3 1333MHZ = $100 less $250 and sell 2x2gb included!
    SLI 285Ms - 425now less $100
256GB SSD - you can get crucial SATA III for $550. those crappy samsung sells for $450
256GB SSD - same thing so x2 it's less $300 and you can sell the included 320gb 7200rpm for $50
    RGB LED - 200
Intel wifi - 30 on ebay less $30
BluRay - not even BR recorder! you can find it for 100 max! less $50
    4 year Prem - 560

    easily more then $1000!!!

Yo dude, cancel your order. 6,000 dollars is something you shouldn't be paying for that. More like 3-4.5k tops. Try to bargain with some reps and get your own RAM sticks and SSDs. They're extremely easy to install. When I was a noob and didn't know smack about computers, I got walked through on how to install my own CPU just from a video lol.

Plus, if you're willing to spend 6k on a computer, I recommend getting a desktop and a laptop, so you can have the max performance @ home and the max performance on the go.
IMO, go for the M15x or M11x for under 2k and then a desktop for 4k. You can get pretty beast systems in both areas.

    http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-m15...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1293201342&sr=1-1
    5850 and 6 GB Ram under 1.6k

Then you can get an Area-51 in the outlet with 5970x2, 12GB ram, 1TB HDD(4 Empty Slots for SSD), and Core i7 extreme for less than 3.3k. All you need then is a screen, keyboard, SSD, and mouse and you're ready to go.

    OR

You can simply haggle down your current decision and save some money for a good mouse or some games by haggling with a rep, like free NBD shipping and 4 Year Warranty + 15% discount. Be like, I was looking at another workstation from Clevo and their prices were much cheaper or something like that.
Plus you can cut the SSDs and 8GB Ram by buying them off of Newegg, which will cost like 90 bucks for a good set of 1333mhz 8GB kit and 500 Dollars for a extremely quick SSD.

Yeah, 6K sounds like a record! I thought I had gone big at $4300, but then I didn't get SSDs or the Blu-ray drive. Then Calif. taxed me $400 for the "privilege" of buying it, so $4700 is about what I'm in it for. I doubt I'll do that again, but then I've said that before and done it again.

I agree with Joker need to save as much as you can, but I also know the best warranty through Dell is very very high.
3 year complete care with 2 extra year warranty was 786.00
but for a close to 5k lappy well worth the peace of mind. The money I saved since it is a replacement for a 2100.00 outlet

couple questions about your setup and if you will benefit from Nvidia cards or Ati. You said you do 3d editing and since you are aware of Nvdia's CUDA technology and the benefits in certain apps. Do you know if you actually need Nvidia specifically for the apps you use or you can get by with ATI. The ati is much more powerful for gaming but Nvidia is much more powerful for apps that utilize Nvidia technologies like CUDA.

Secondly i hope you did not think that by spending a bunch of money some how your laptop will work from the get go....oh no you are just as likely to have crashes, BSOD or any other glitch like someone who spends 1/5 of what you spend. please read up on updates, mods and tweaks you can perform to get the most bang....well you kinda blew the bang for buck but whatever i guess what i meant to say is.... the most BENEFIT for your $$$.

so yea im suppose to be receiving my laptop on Monday the 10th and im a little worried b/c i just got through reading some of the posts on Dells/Alienware forum and it wasn't pretty. so im asking if i should be worried, i know dells a big company and i would like to think they try there best with customer support but im not so sure maybe im just paranoid who knows hahahaha
