ok, weird issue...i want to download the latest amd drivers for my 6970m in my m17x r3. when i browse the amd drivers site all that comes up is the small 1mb mobility driver and then the catalyst package (no driver). it's like the list is cut off and I cant choose to download the whole package or just the driver.

i have tried to download the driver on numerous systems. no idea what's going on...

    am i going crazy? =)

the driver on the dell site seems a bit out of date and im having some graphical problems with sc2 so I wanted to try the latest.

    thanks!

    Hi there,

The 1.1mb file is just a small file which you then have to run and it will then download the full GPU driver for you.

    You could try these http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/581857-ati-catalyst-11-5b-hotfix-m17xr3.html

    Or

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/577219-amd-ati-11-5-driver-released.html

    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-5_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

    Cheers. :)

    Hey there buddy,

I believe you need a modded INF for the AMD mobility drivers. Then you should be able to detect your GPU hardware and install the latest GPU drivers.

    Cheers. :)

If I am not wrong you can install the new drivers over the dell drivers and you will still be able to switch graphics.

Though, I am not sure as I am using M18x AMD drivers for my machine (see my sig).

What are the advantages of 11.5b? Apart from what is mentioned officially on the AMD site. Any performance improvement for games like Crysis2, Black Ops, etc?

biggest thing for me is graphical anomalies in sc2 like no pylon radius and some shadow flickering

11.5 is worth it for the glitch fixes. Although, since its a reference driver, it doesn't include all of Dell's customizations, most notably the ability to change brightness with the Fn keys. You won't lose switching graphics since those are provided by your old driver (if you didn't remove them that is).

when i try to install this 11.5b hotfix over the dell drivers it says that i already have the most up to date driver. I know I don't...i think that means i need the "modded" 11.5b drivers?

any idea where I can get them?

so do you loose ability to increase/decrease brightness using Fn keys if you install 11.5 drivers? What if you install it over dell drivers? Can anyone confirm this?

Ok this is going to sound a bit silly but how do I find what version of catalyst i have?

Under 'Catalyst control center version' in the CCC's software information section, it says 2010.1202.1025.18640

You lose Fn key brightness control for sure. Everything else seems to work fine. The way it should be installed is right on top of the Dell drivers.

Use the Windows Mobility Center. Find it either in your control panel or use the hotkey shortcut Fn+F10.
