hey guys, im having some troubles installing empire total war on my machine, i have the disc version and it installs everything perfectly up-to the point where steam asks for the second disc to be installed, at this point everything goes to custard, it wont let me eject the first cd, after trying numerous times it then freezes and nothing responds.

so i have tried copying the contents of the first disc to desktop and use the setup to run it and it works perfectly again upto the point where i install the second disc, now the second disc is in the drive and it fails to recognize it and asks me to install the second disc......any one have any ideas about whats going on, im thinking it might have something to do with the slotload drive but not sure.........

please don't say "just download it from steam" if that was a option i would have taken it....thanks for any ideas.

I don't know if this will help, but try to rip an iso file from the 2nd disk and mount it on a virtual drive, it might recognize it, but i am not sure.

Well, I'm no expert, and that's the best i could come up with. You could just install Virtual Clone Drive, I think it is, I use that, works nice. Might as well try it.

Have a look at the contents of both discs, and look for the Steam archive files. You'll know them because they'll be big. If the names of the files on disc 1 are different to the names of the files on disc 2, try copying all of the files from both discs to your laptop.

If this doesn't work, or there are Steam archive files with duplicate names, then you may have to resort to ISO images and Daemon Tools.

I've also found something about the Blu-ray drive that ships with the M17x (could affect all of the optical drives). If you try to hit the eject button when the disc is in use, it will spin down the disc but not eject it. The drive then becomes unresponsive until you reboot the computer. I'm not sure if this is a drive issue or a BIOS (A07) issue.

that's exactly what seems to happen, the file that is associated with the disc freezes (in this case steam) and the only way to get a response is the close the program........BUT it might just have to do with my Empire total war discs because i just installed "the last Remnant" which also uses two discs to install and it worked fine, so not sure why empire is being a pain in the ***.........ill try your suggestion about combining both DVD files and running from desktop....thanks for the help guys.
