hi all i just thought id post this as a warning, i had my m17xr2 just like all of you have in here and ive not added anything to the laptop.

my windows 764bit was on auto update which it did about an hour ago and completley ballsed my laptop up... i got blue screen of death and i had to do safe mode etc and restore.

the only thing ive done latley was update to dells beta driver for the 5870s, it might have been my laptop but just to let you all know. :)

Probably the laptop lol. Did it go to sleep or did you take out the A/C to run it on battery?

I agree, I'm sure it was the beta drivers rather than windows update. Back in Windows Me/2000/XP days pre SP3 yeah, you probally wanted to backup stuff before updating, but updates on Vista and 7 have been solid on all the computers I've used and seen so far.

I love the new windows updates. I can now let my computer go on sleep and boot it without any problems with the alienFx staying on. This is with 10.7 drivers ofc.

    Awesome ! :p

Yeah... Its something else with these beta? My vantage went from gpu score around 12400 to almost 14000p with the new betas.. but the broblem with sleep, unplug inplug ac hangings and so on just made me install dells originals again.. And after that i got 3000 p in vantage. Started furmark and gpu-z and saw that clocks were at 300 instead of 700? Many tries of uninstall, driver sweaper and ccleaner. Its a no go.. And in device manager it says its two 5800 or vga not 5870? so im reinstalling my computor right now. Hopefully this helps. Anybody else had this probleme with drivers before. Not me. And yeah, ive cheked high perfomance, Sleep mode off, cf on..

Beta driver for sure. I took it right back off my computer. I got blue screen of deaths, flickering, etc and I only had it on the laptop for 1 hr.

that's why they're betas, they don't get the same QC testing as signed drivers.

Yeah I had the same problem but I didn't get it until I installed the beta drivers.

I can confirm that aswell, that with the official ATI Catalyst Mobility 10.7 WHQL Drivers sleep does indeed work after todays windows update. PowerPlay has to be activated.

Keep in mind that you have to use the workaround to install those, btw. the Dell Drivers also have that enabled :)

Issues known: Does not work on battery at all. Lockup Frenzy :D

Also i can live without battery, because these drivers worked great last time with FFXIV Beta, the game i actually bought this laptop for :)
