I wonder what y'all think, I am considering jumping for the M17x with the CF 5870 cards. I have a fully built M6400 Covet with 8GB ram, QX9300 Quad @ 2.5GHz, SSD, 1920*1200 E2E LED screen.

I would jump to the top of the line M17XR2, but I think it may not be as significant as I might hope. I know the video performance will be 2X minimum over my FX3700 I have now.

It appears used markets for the covet are soft too, so I may only get back $1200-$1500 on my 5K machine. My machine is 80% work, 20% play, but I do like to crank up the eye candy on games, and I like a fast quiet machine otherwise. What do you think? I probably have another year of life left in this machine, I am feeling I should probably wait it out. Thanks

    That's more than an upgrade...

    ------------ Just do it! --------------

Remember the difference with your PC is the i7 which is amazing and the incredible power of the CF5870's for gaming which your current config does not even come close to.

You said you like fast quiet machines. The M17x is not quiet, its quite loud during gaming. If you can handle the loud noise during games, then go for it.

    Thanks guys

Loud is ok while gaming. Not so good while reading a forum :) I think the 17x would be fine.

Whee, order placed, thanks for your advice. Oh boy, it's gonna be hard to explain this one to the Missus ;)

I got EPP + a $100 discount too. I bought with a low end Win7 and a 500G 7200 drive. I already ordered an intel 160GB ssd for my c: drive, and I'll install my Win7 ultimate on it. Thanks!
