Ok, here is the question...... I know with the 120 hz 3d monitor its impossible to enable the igpu. BUT if I was to open up the case and switch the monitor cable from the 3d output on the motherboard to the normal one, would I then be able to switch in between discreet and integrated?

Well, I don't have a 3D screen so can't speak to hardware, but as to the software, I can't switch to iGP at will either. Something to do with nVidia Optimus, which supposedly "optimizes" how the discrete and iGPUs are used and when. I can't remember exactly now. =p But I think that might be able to be turned off so that you could - if you don't have a 3D screen.

Can't be done. The bios/igpu cannot 'drive' a 120mz monitor, that is why it is connected differently. You will end up with a machine that will not boot

Great answer! Thanks for the help out there. +1 Rep. Actually you are right unfortunately this is not possible to be made on this platform. About the optimus tech we have an article that explains pretty well how it works.

There is one way that *might* work if you have the kit around and are keen to benchmark. Connect a 60hz monitor to the displayport (not HDMI, unlikely to work) and pop the cable for the panel. If it starts then you will probably 'see' the intel video?
Thanks, I found out the hard way on my R3 when I disabled my discreet card in an unlocked bios - instant brick! Luckily I had prepared a usb with the bios on it to do the 'blind' recovery over the esata port. Which brings me nicely to a question for you Luis:

Do you know if your guys are working on a recovery method for the R4? I've seen two people that have bricked their R4's and using the r3 recovery method (with an R4 bios file) has left both of them with machines that are now completely dead - not even a power up

    Thanks.

Cool, let us know how it goes? Make sure your bios is set to auto detect video. It's default, but you might have been changing it

Edit: just noticed it has a vga port . That would be just as good as the displayport to test. :D

Your were half right :) with both vga and display port it recognizes the display, changes the resolution to 1024x768 and then......... 8 beeps. Oh well close but no cigar :)

Shame, it was a bit of a long shot - looks like you are stuck with the Nv video output.

Just playing with my new toy. A panasonic L37DT30B 3D TV. Totally awesome piece of kit - more plug-n-play that windows. And it works perfect with the AW at 1920x1080, even in 3D.

Plug in a HD -'do you want to use the HD for recording?' Hell yes! Plug in a wireless usb - 'do you want to connect to the internet?' It even sees my media library and can play all my vids and music. Blown away!

Only thing is that 3d TV standard is only 24 fps - but I cannot see any difference from the laptop panel. Games are a smooth as silk and as a bonus the card runs much cooler at those frame rates. ;)

Thank you Mr taxman for the hefty rebate! It was a 680 or TV. Since the 675 is fine right now for all the games I'll wait to see how the 680 pans out...
