Yes, it comes included.
-
Squeeker the Cat Notebook Consultant
is it card specific? or does it come standard regardless of the 3 wireless cards?
-
katalin_2003 NBR Spectre Super Moderator
It's a separate card (has its own slot).
Cheers -

great thanks a lot!!! would be nice if they mentioned it on the product page....lol
-
I assumed it came with it, but I saw nothing on my order sheet about it. So, I went back to AW site and configured a m17, and there was no way to add bluetooth. I guess it is fair to assume that it is standard?
-
katalin_2003 NBR Spectre Super Moderator
It will come with it when buying new no matter what.
And yes there's one type of bluetooth card only. It does perform good, I use a bluetooth headset a lot and have no complains. -
How many new posts are you going to make to ask questions that have already been answered here a thousand times?

thanks for the comment there spam master....... i searched quickly but didn't find a definite answer. so i asked.......i was looking for a definite yes or no answer and got it without your help. have a great day! -
Be nice, he only has 47 posts
Yes, the search feature stinks. Don't worry about asking us questions (especially folks in the AW sections, cuz most ppl here have been very friendly to me since I showed up on day 1, and have supported me since then as well). You may want to check out the FAQ thread for R3s. Better to google it rather than use the NBR search feature, unfortunately. You can check out all of the user's reviews too for more info. -

How can I check if i have bluetooth or not, because it seems that my system has no bluetooth, I think it was not included in the config, it was separate option for about 60 EUR, and I don't see any signs of it's presence in my rig -
The R3 has bluetooth, right? I have the BT icon in the tray, but when I go to pair something (my PS3 remote), nothing happens. I've also installed Motionjoy, but it doesn't pair with the remote when I follow the exact instructions on their site...
Please advise.

Squeeker the Cat Notebook Consultant
ive heard from several people that they cant pair with anything........thats why i was asking LOL its not on dells spec sheet, so how do we know for sure?
-
You can check it in Control panel in Device Manager. It's there. There's actually two "hardware": 1) Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module, and 2) Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. Both say "This device is working properly" when you go to Properties.
All I wanna do is play Dolphin from bed, why won't you let me, Dell!?!??!
-
Hey Dookie,
First off, I have learned quite a bit about the machine I am getting from your posts. Thanks. +Rep
Second, can you update us on your success in pairing something? I have a bluetooth mouse currently, and was hoping to use it.
Thanks in advance. -

Of course M17x has bluetooth as standard feature. There is no question about that. The $60 is the Intel wireless card.
And of course you can connect popular bluetooth devices to M17x. I used my Orochi via bluetooth quite a lot. -
Thanks for the reply. However, every owner that has stated that it works does not have an R3. Dookie, having an R3 is having issues. I have an R3 on order.
Are there any R3 owners that have used and paired bluetooth? -
katalin_2003 NBR Spectre Super Moderator
Just make sure it's enabled in BIOS first!
-
I know when I was researching what machine to buy, I was looking at several Clevo based units and found that Bluetooth was a part of some Intel WiFi cards except the 6300.
On some systems, one had the option to add a Bluetooth module as an option.
I don't recall the R3 having this option, I just assumed it was included in the price.
If, as some have stated there is a Del Bluetooth 375 module showing in the device manager, then it is definitely there.
Also as katalin_2003 says, make sure it is enabled in the BIOS. -

Also, it shows "enabled" for Bluetooth Receiver in BIOS, but no signs of Bluetooth anywhere in my system

If all signs point that you should have Bluetooth and you still don't, then open it up and take a look. After you remove the palmrest, it should be there if it was installed in the first place
Man, 40 euros it's enormeous for a bluetooth card lol. -
I have not been able to pair my PS3 remote. I will check the BIOS a bit later, and letcha know. This is kind of a stupid hassle, cuz the "average" consumer would never know to go enable somethign that's a standard feature in the bios. How inconvenient dell is making this for (us).
-
Control Panel / Add a Bluetooth Device
Works fine for me. Synching my phone with it. -
What wireless device do you have in your m17x shadow?
-
Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module. Same as all R3 owners.
-
I don't see it. Where do I click??
-
So I was still unable to find "Add a bluetooth device." I was able to find "Add a device" though, through the tray icon. Still can't detect my PS3 controller. Checked the BIOS, and bt has been enabled by default. So I rebooted and the bt actually works, cuz it was able to pair with my phone also. Maybe its a PS3 remote issue. Can someone please advise?
-
Well, from a quick Google search it seems to mention PS3 remotes being 3.30 firmware to connect them to PC. Also, I saw mentioned that you have to install the remote's drivers in Windows before it will detect it.
Playstation 3 controller(Dualshcok 3 or Sixaxis) driver for windows | MotioninJoy
This is the best I could find in a quick search. Updated November '10. -
So, as previously mentioned, this is a discrete bluetooth card. I know the Intel 6230 Wifi also has bluetooth built on to the card. Dell must determine whether to add the discrete card based upon the WiFi option selected.
Some users may have the 375, others may have some Intel based solution built onto the WiFi card.
Either device should show up in the device manager under "Bluetooth Radios" and if there is a driver loaded and configured, it should also show up under "Network Adapters".
That's how things appear on my Dell Latitude D620 with W7 64 Ultimate. I have a device named "Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth Module" -
I suppose, yes, if you chose the 6230 it would make sense for Dell to remove the discrete card since it would be redundant. I'm not sure if that's what they actually do however since I haven't heard of it yet. Seems like all R3 owners either go for the stock WiFi to save money or they 6300 for best performance; WiFi cards are inexpensive enough to where it kinda doesn't make sense to shoot for the middle of the range product, especially if you're going the DIY route.
-
For the few "extra bucks", I opted to get the WiFi card from AW. RAM however, too much "extra bucks"!
Those extra bucks are how I found this forum, googling upgrade RAM Alienware M17! Joebarchuck's video on youtube is great! -
I did that, cuz that's required to use the controller in USB mode. (I use usb mode on my desktop all the time). But it's the computer itself which doesn't detect the PS3 remote in wireless/BT mode.

How do you like your Razer Orochi for gaming? I ordered one and haven't received it yet. If it is not up to snoff I might order a Razer Mamba for when it is at my desk and use the Orochi when I am on the go. Thanks. -

Hey Dookie,
Have you tried watching this Youtube video of someone showing how to pair the PS3 controller to a PC through bluetooth? He does use a bluetooth dongle but it shouldn't make a difference I think. Let me know if it words for you. Cheers!

There is also this website as well.

I hope either one of those links helps and you are able to use the bluetooth with your PS3 controller on your R3. Let me know if either one works because I will be wanting to do the same once I get mine. Cheers
-
The first guide doesn't work for me. It's essentially what I've already been trying to do all along. The second link is helpful, but I don't know where to dl FreeBT cuz it's now open source and the original is unavailable, so maybe you can point me in the right direction?
-
TheProphetofDoom Notebook Consultant
I am not sure where to go from here if either of them doesn't work. I am not sure where to find the FreeBT. If you do get the bluetooth working with the PS3 controller keep us posted.
-
Will do. No idea either as it won't sync with the computer...
-
Meh, just found Btsix, which has the freeBT driver in it, but it's not compatible with 64bit windows. Damn.
-
TheProphetofDoom Notebook Consultant
Why does it have to be so difficult to be able to use bluetooth?!?! I hope someone find a solution.
-
Yah seriously. So I tried installing the fbt driver that came in that zip folder that I dled (btsix). It made my stock bt driver disappear, so I had to reinstall 'em with the resource disk. Damn.
Looks like there needs to be a fix for this, or maybe I should invest in a bt adapter/donglethingy. -
I am hoping that this is just an issue with pairing a proprietary item (PS3 remote), and would not effect other typical bluetooth items. As aggravating as it may be, I don't think a PS3 remote would be a native item to a laptop computer, compared to my kensington mouse.
With that said, good luck Dookie in finding your solution. -
Will keep searching till I find a solution. NBR fam, you guys will be the first to know the results
-
TheProphetofDoom Notebook Consultant
You can get a bt adapter for about $15 but we shouldn't have to buy one if its already built in. I will keep looking online and post any findings. Someone will have to try them out for me. I don't have my R3 yet and I don't have access to a pc with bluetooth.

How to Connect a PS3 Controller to a PC Using Bluetooth | eHow.com
Hey dookie could this be one of the issues you been having?
This is the second comment from the site I just linked.
"At driver install, if you are using a 64-bit PC, press F8 while installing the Bluetooth drivers and select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement". This can prevent driver conflicts that can arise."
Let me know if you can get it to work. -
TheProphetofDoom Notebook Consultant
Someone posted this on another forum and I thought I would share it.
"If you're running a 64-bit OS, prepare to stab yourself in the face out of frustration." -
TheProphetofDoom Notebook Consultant
One thing I have seen a few times now is a warning that there is the potential of disabling all of the USB ports on your pc but it can be fix by uninstalling the program.
Here is one more link for Dookie or whomever is wanting to try this out. It seems to be promising but who knows until someone here can confirm it.
PS3 Controller on 64 bit windows 2.0! -
That's to use the controller via usb mode. I've had that working since like last week. It works fine usb mode + motionjoy. The issue is bt pairing with motionjoy (or even just gettin the R3 to detect the controller in bt/wireless mode).
-
Damn still haven't figured this out yet...
