The alienate support reinstalled a different version of windows than was shipped with my computer. He told me I would still be able to do a factory reset.....and of course I can't. Is there a way to recover the original version of the os without alienrespawn? Because all he did was install windows 7 with a whole bunch of skins that ended up slowing down my computer. I have the original CDs and it doesn't seem to be working. Actually I have all of the original hardware and software that came new in the box. Any help would be appreciated.

I apologise for the spelling. I'm doing this with my phone.

Use the Windows install disk that came with you computer. Reboot, hold down F12 and boot from your DVD drive with the Windows disk in it. Delete any existing partitions from your drive, and let Windows install.

Once installed, follow the driver install sequence found here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/562751-m17xr3-clean-install-ssd-instructions-recommendations.html

Don't use the drivers that came on your resource disk. Download the latest ones from Dell here:

Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

Don't use the Realtek card reader driver from that page. Download the one for the M18X found here:

Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

Install all the drivers except the Command Center. Do all Windows updates first before you install it.

Well I f III Bally got it after creating a new partition and formatting instead of deleting. It's strange though. I used the original cd and it still installed the generic windows 7. I know that this is more of a cosmetic issue but is there anyway to get that look that it was shipped with withought having to install skin changing programs?

What kind of hard drive is it that you're attempting to install the OS onto?
Please try this and let us know the result:

Before you begin, remove all drives from the computer except for the one you're installing the OS on.

    1. Boot from the Windows DVD
    2. Set the following preferences, and then click Next.
    - Language to install
    - Time and currency format
    - Keyboard or input method
    3. On the next screen click "Repair your computer".
    4. Under "System Recover Option" choose the drive you're trying to install the OS on.
    5. Under "Choose a recovery tool" choose "Command Prompt".
    6. Type "FORMAT C:/" without the quotations and hit enter. Type "Y" without the quotations and hit enter. The hard drive will be formatted. Wait for it to finish.
    7. Once the hard drive is formatted, type "exit" without the quotes and hit enter to close command prompt.
    8. Click Shut Down to turn off the computer.
    9. Boot from the DVD and try to install the OS again.

While the OS that comes with your system is the Dell/Alienware OEM version, the Alienware theme is just an OEM background and can be configured to anything you want, really. Same goes for the profile pictures.
