I reinstalled windows on my new system because I didn't like the slow 500GB HDD dell supplied. So I installed my seagate momentus 750GB Hybrid HDD. After install the function keys will not work.

Did you re-install the Command Center and OSD? There are quite a few options that don't seem to work properly until those are installed. If you did a fresh install there are quite a few things that don't go back in if you used the DVD.

Okay so they won't work. As in when you press them nothing happens. Or does it give you an error? Also if you put in your old hard drive do the function keys function as they should.

Answer this and we can help you but vague as they don't work does help anybody. Seems like simple driver error but we have no way of telling. next step would be to test Eject Function key in bios if it works then the actual keyboard is not bad.

So this is a driver error, you sure you are installing the correct one? Also have you tried clean uninstalling it. By running ccleaner with registry cleaner. Then finding any leftover files? Then trying to reinstall the most up to date version from dell of the OSD. But you have to make sure its the OSD for your model not another alienware.

Its the most recent update. I downloaded it for my model. I even thought about installing .net famework 4.5.

They said I voided my warranty by installing another hdd. The tech told me to reinstall win7 and no dice. The driver tech is now installing the necessary drivers.
If this don't work they're going to send the parts. I hope there going to send someone to install whatever needs fixed.
    that was the short version.

I let the tech remote to my system and he installed the drivers. the keys work but it will not eject the cd or turn up the volume. Its a software issue and i'm baffled
