Hi, i have my m17x configured and thought i would post it here to get some thoughts/opinions/suggestions from the experts. :D

    Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
    MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (2DIMMS)
    VIDEO CARD 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6970M
    HARD DRIVE 320GB 7,200RPM HDD
    LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    WIRELESS CARD Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

EDIT: I am going to buy a small SSD just to put windows on and a few applications, and i am most likely going to upgrade to 8GB RAM but put it in myself because it will be cheaper.

Looks good. You were smart and got the stock ram/hd.
Maybe consider a blu-ray player? In case you want 3d via hdmi-out, or want to watch blu-ray movies. Your call.

How about warranty? A little bit extra can never hurt down the road.

Also, you can even skip the intel 6300 upgrade, and buy it off newegg for like 30$. I was lazy and just ordered from dell

Besides that, all else is good, unless you plan on upgrading the cpu for performance boost. The boost won't be huge though, so probably not worth it depending on your usage

Seconded on self-installing the 6300. You have to open it up to put the extra RAM in anyway, and the wireless card is right there.

I am thinking about getting the same set up as you. Is it hard to access the ram on the m17x?

Thanks for the suggestions on the wireless card! I never thought of doing it myself. But since its right there next to the RAM it worth it to do it myself. And I've also heard that you wouldn't even notice a difference between processors unless your doing like 3d rendering design etc.
