Er...is that some mistake? I thought M17x lowest end GPU was like a GT240M? Probably a typo by the seller, might want to message him or get the service tag.

The lowest official GPU a M17x can take is the GTX 260M, for the M17x R2 it's the mobility 4870.
Probably his card is a mobility 5870

The link pulls nothing for me, as far as the R2 goes it depends on what kind of gaming you want to do and on what settings. If it's got the lowest possible configs(either a single 4870 or single 5870) it can game but don't expect to max anything out like SC2, Metro 2033, Witcher 2, Crysis, etc but it will still play them. Your best bet is to either cancel the order and find another one or to upgrade it to Xfire 5870's or even Xfire 6970's.

From the link, 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5450 Discrete Video Card.

Advice, pick up a 5870 or 460 from the marketplace but in the end it may have cost the same to get one from the outlet.

Uh yeah, either the guy was wrong or it's fishy, there's not a 5450 in any Alienware laptop.

Personally, I find private ebay listings fishy; YMMV. If you want the R2, I would seriously check the outlet since last I checked there were ~30 R2's available in various configs-- and you get a warranty like new.

Wow. This is fishy. Either A) the guy has no idea what GPU is in there. B) Or he took out the good GPUs and put in crappy ones (which no one here has seen used before) and then sold it. Very misleading on his part.

    Hope it all works out.

Dell outlet with a coupon could get you a decent laptop. Also there are lots of pod laptops here on the forum for $1000, but not M17s. There is a G73JW with an SSD for $1000.

    A) might be correct

but B) i don't agree, he DID list the card along with other specs, it's not like he listed a 5870 trying to hide the 5450. It's up to the buyer to do his research on the specs!
If it was a 6970(which as the 5450 never came in the M17x R2) instead i'm sure you wouldn't have said anything for this price.

@haysooom: I'm glad you were able to cancel the transaction, next time pay more attention, you can't blame the seller on this one as he did list everything. I'm not sure if 1000$ will get you a decent M17x R2 but you can always check the Dell outlet for good deals.

I agree it is the buyers responsibility to ask questions about a listing if you don't know. Still when ever I list stuff on eBay I put the important stuff aswell as my auction rules in bold, this helps prevent misunderstanding. I don't think this seller had bad intentions, he did let him out of the deal, so it's all good. Still if I listed an M17 with a weak GPU, I'd make sure my buyer couldn't miss it.

That's very nice of you, i wish more out there would adopt this mentality, seriously.
But what i was trying to say earlier is that we can't blame him for not choosing a 30size bold red colored font to list the GPU ;)

Agreed, it is still absolutely the buyers responsibility. I just sold an iPhone 4 that clearly stated (in bold) COULD be unlocked. In the rules it stated customs fees were the buyers responsibility (in bold). And my buyer was still upset they had to pay customs fees and use software to unlock the phone. You can't please everyone. That's why selling stuff here is good. Informed buyers who know what they want.

 I feel for you, some are just not worth it and as you said better deal with people that know what they're dealing with and if possible on forums that you frequently post.

    Cheers
