I just flash the Bios of my gtx485m with more V: 1 to 1.030V and hopefully, OC now is stable without black screen and keep good temp condition :)

but i saw maybe something interesting while flashing:
I got this warning while flashing but all is working :p

''Warning: FIRMWARE image PCI SubSystem ID: (10DE.0000)
does not match adapter PCI SubSystem ID ( 1028. 0490) ''

I look on Dell driver and this is the ID from gtx580m:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04% = Section011, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_ 0490 1028

    this is from gtx460m:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0DD1.03% = Section011, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0DD1&SUBSYS_ 0490 1028

    this is from GTX485m:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0E31.01% = Section034, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0E31&SUBSYS_ 0490 1028

I mean i got a feeling if we can replace the ''0000'' by ''0490'' or the 0E31 by 1251, it should be recognized as a gtx580m on the bios so 3D should be enabled??

    What do you think guys?
I want to know who try to change the name of his gtx460m before and why it failed?

Hmm, worth a try I guess, vbios experimenting is always exciting business... Since there isn't a lot of documentation available about VBIOS etc. most can only be figured out by trial and error... Unless you have access to some hardware specifications of the manufacturers.

I don't think this'll enable 3d, probably there's some additional part in the Dell 580m VBIOS which is responsible for the IR stuff.
What about flashing the 580m VBIOS on the 485m? :D
It's almost the same card... would love to try this, but I haven't got access to a system with a 485m.

By changing the device ID you'll have some issues when installing the drivers... you'll have to force the install since the hardware IDs won't match.

Flashing the vbios from the 580m to the 485m will be counter productive. The voltage tables are different so the card just wouldn't run right.

see what you're getting at and was what we attempted to do with the subsid from 460m to 485m - it bricked the 485m, don't know if it was the flashing process or the data but it fecked it up, the HW id's might be in several places in the bios who knows, I suspect that a none Dell sourced 580m will not work in a 3D R3 although I'm sure we will find out soon enough, the reasons for this are obvious - PC OEM's would love a world where you must buy all upgrades from them - desktops not so easy to do but laptops they have us screwed.

True, didn't think about this... but if the cards use the same voltage regulator it might work...

@Geoffxx: Who has a bricked 485m, you? I might be able to help recovering it...

But did you just change the device id or the subsys ID? Did you change the OEM Signon name? Do you remember if you flash with nvflash [-5 -6] xxx.rom ??

Also, after the holidays, as i will not play, I will try to flash the GPU with different ID name but:
If it failed, do you think i can boot with gtx460m and when the command promper is showed by the nvflash utility, I switch the gpu and start flashing :p ?
I just need to hope that the PC will not shutdown when putting off the gtx460m while replacing it by the ''broken'' gtx485m.

No, this won't work. But in case everything goes wrong I should be able to revive your GPU, can you check what kind of serial flash chip it has for storing the VBIOS?

When I tried to put the 470m in the Asus G73JW I changed the subsystem ID, vendor ID and board ID several times without bricking the card, but also without effect on the compatibility.

Thanks :) but I hope it will not result in that case xD haha.
I can't give the serial flash memory chip to you as there is the heatsink :/ Maybe everest can give it but i can't find it.

Mhh good to know so I hope it will not brick the GPU :p

On old computers back in the day I used to boot one computer up with a video card (only had one) then pull the card out while the system was on, then switch it to another computer. One of the PC's refused to boot without a video card so anytime I had to restart it I put the card in to boot it :)
