That will be a capable system, but it won't top any charts of course. You can upgrade to the top performing CPU for around $400. The only regret you will have is not getting the RGB LED screen.

You can upgrade that later too. It's a bit spendy though. I had an E1705 with a 1440x900 screen and it never really bothered me, to be honest. If that's the only spec available, then go for it. How much is it?

as brand new owner of a m17xr2, take my advice buddy: DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING WITHOUT RGB LED :D its one thing at the time man... i exceptionally love it, wouldn't go for any other screen laptops got out there.
p.s. u can always get refurbished deal OFF ebay for same price, or you can buy a 1-2 months used system with better specs/same money. you'll love it, trust me.

Compare to an R3 for $1499 + blue ray, especially if you cannot afford the led screen on the r2. R3 value is unbeatable.

Not to down ya, but that's kinda pricey. You should definitely haggle with the rep and try and get the RGBLED, which I hear is absolutely amazing.

If you can't get the price down, there is always the r3 when it comes back, would be even cheaper than buying an r2 from the site.

Or dell outlet, where you can get great deals on refurbished r2s, and it is virtually no difference from a brand new one.

Also, the cheapest option, ebay, where you could get a maxed 940xm 5870CF, etc. system for under 2500$ if you look long and hard enough. Just make sure the seller has good feedback, and read the description to the letter and ask questions if not answered.

Good luck, hope you get yourself a system that kicks but at a price that does the same. :D

@ KilllerBunny all options of maxed out r2 under 2500 are gone. i bought one from there and can tell you: once something like that appears on ebay its gone as wind, moreover (and LOL) even 1-2 year used r2s are for sale by owners for like 2500 with not even highest specs so... you can get full maxout for $2600-2700 easily, I got mine and can say it smelled like new when came in :)

R2 is the previous M17X model
R3 is the current M17X model

    R2:
is first gen i7 (so overclock support for 920)
    support for dual graphics
    metal chassis
    RGB-LED screen.

    R3:
    second gen i7
support for one graphics card (plus intel)
with 460M an option to have 3D.
    Slightly thinner than the R2.

There's quite a few threads on it which get closed as people keep getting all wound up about it.

thanks tomcom, i spoke to a dell guy and he said tbh a top spec is just overkill and would only recommend anything other than an entry level spec purely for future proofing, i dont really agree with that, i want games running on high settings with no lag and looking great
