You should be able to check/change the region by doing this: Microsoft Corporation

Normally, you get a set amount of changes - 5, I think.....and then it's locked down....unless you can hack it.

Or you can use a legit software to change the region for you according to your dvd / bluray (at a cost ofcourse) - AnyDVD HD (It works for anything, dvd's, bluray, etc.).

Seriously! Why on a laptop is there a limit to the number of times you can change your region when for a fixed DVD player you can get one with no restrictions. I frequently move between Australia / Russia / Europe and the USA and I am not the only one and I have this problem all the time. My fix to the problem is to rip the DVD onto a portable Hard Drive and in the process remove the area coding. At least that way I am not confronted with the 5 x limit to change the DVD area code. Of course this for DVDs that I have bought.
