    Hi (again)...

Once again I am having problems again with my laptop, it looks the same problem as a couple months ago where dell finaly swapped hard drives.

My laptop starts up properly, diagnostics is telling me everything is ok, all tests succeeding.

When I am in Windows the problems starting. Hard disk led is blinking on stays on a couple seconds and goes out again, at the start that's normal but when the system is idle to me that doesn't look normal. When looking further in performance monitor of Windows the disk activity time shows 100% for a couple seconds and back to 0. this is a constant process...

At this moment windows is freezing for a couple seconds aswell, running music stops and continues again (annoying) videos do the same (even more annoying). Playing a round of poker is giving me slowmotion games.

Before I am gonna call Dell (once) again I like to have some advice from you m17x owners.

I am getting lost with the bunch of problems and many repairs getting over and over. What can I do with this laptop, I am starting to lose faith in this machine.

    For your information this is a m17x R2, I7 840QM 6GB memory, 500GB momentus SSD hybrid HDD, crossfire 5870.

As mentioned last time Dell swapped the harddisk after doing 1.5 week of diagnostics resulting in no errors, neither hardware problems.

    Regrads,
    Dennis

Could be the hybrid. Is there some sort of firmware that can be updated on that thing?

Use Process Explorer to see which app is causing the hangs:

Run CCleaner. Fix all registry faults and clean up. Maybe some registry faults.

Go msconfig and take a look at startup programe's.

Thanks for the fast replies. Just downloaded process explorer and ran it.

Somehow the only thing I am seeing are flatlines.

No spikes, 5% cpu usage, memory 33%, no I/O spikes, gpu 0.

Led goes on, off, on, off, also disk activity in resource monitor shows many spikes to 100%.

    Any more clues?

    Regards,
    Dennis

CCcleaner runned, looked to application and services that are running, not much interesting.

cccleaner fixed a bunch of registry errors but still the blinking disco led and freezing screens everywhere for a couple of seconds.

Im afraid I have to make another dell call if this continues.

It could be some sort of malware that is causing it.

I would do a backup of your system, then do a clean install of windows. If you're still getting the same problem than it is hardware related. Otherwise you got some kind of malware. You can also do the system restore from the dell partition.

Also, you should run process explorer with elevated priviledges, meaning right click, run as administrator. This way you will be able to see everything.

I know it is a pain, but fresh install is the best way to narrow down the problem.
