hello, i recently bought a red m17x and to make things short i had problems and im getting a replacement and the tech said it might not be the same color "red" but if its a diff color they would have a tech come by and change the "back cover" im not to sure what he means by that. if he means they will just change out the top cover i dont think that would look to good because the whole computer is red not just the top cover.

my question is, do you think its possible to change out the entire color? because they would need to gut every single thing out im not sure if the techs are willing to do that, or do they only change the top cover.they are giving me some upgrades which i really appreciate and im not trying to be picky if they send me a silver m17x but i only bought this m17x because i wanted red, i personally think the red looks much better then the silver and black because i got all three colors now.

here is his exact email to me regarding asking if it will be red:
Thank you for reverting back, I have request for a red color back cover, but not sure if it is available. If you do not get a red back cover, we can arrange for a tech to come and swap the back covers.

I will not be available in the office the rest of the week. I will arrange for a call back from one of my colleague to follow-up with the issue.

when he says back covers, does he mean everything? or just the back cover of the computer?

If I'm not mistaken, the Nebula Red was $100 extra, right? That alone to me means that they need to restore the back cover and the chassis for a complete swap. If they don't, be persistent until the job gets done properly. I'd also call before a potential problem arises for clarification.

ok thanks for the advice, i got a really good corporate email that has been so great, the techs sent out a replacement right away once i told him my problem, no questions asked.

EDIT: yes your right it is $100 more, but i bought mine off ebay. however i did notice that i could of gotten an even better configuration for the same price if i wanted it in silver but i wanted it in red so i opted for the lower config . i got all three colors now of the m17x and red looks the best followed by black then silver. so the silver one doesnt look good to me at all.

i actually just received the replacement today and its silver! man that sucks. im going to call up dell today, i just hope its possible to change out the entire chassis

See, these are the threads we need more of. Alienware made good by the customer and there were a few upgrades involved. Good to hear Murkr.
