    Hi all,

I was searching around on google and came across a topic that said the i7 740QM has a feature called Turbo Boost which can oc my cpu from 1.73 to 2.93. I checked in my BIOS and couldnt find this feature on there. Could anyone help me understand this turbo boost feature a bit more please?

    Thanks.

With all 4 cores active, the 740QM runs at 1.73GHz. With single core it runs at 2.93GHz. I previously had the 740QM, I can't remember the multipliers for 2/3 cores.

Thanks. I looked in performance options and found that it was on, so I downloaded a program called Intel Turbo Boost Monitor and get how it works a bit more now. Whilst I was in the performance options, I saw that there was an option for overclocking but its greyed out and cant select it, is there a way to make this selectable?

The 740QM cannot be overclocked. If you are looking for more processor power, the 920/940XM are great for overclocking. I'm running mine (ES version) at 3.4GHz for 1/2 cores and 3.2GHz for 3/4 cores using Throttlestop. I got mine at USD258 from Alibaba.com and it has been money well spent. Last I checked on EBay, the QS version is selling at USD366.
