I'm contemplating getting one of those cpu's to upgrade my 820qm. So my main question is - what's the difference other than the extra 0.13ghz?

Whichever one I get, I'll be pushing it to the max with throttlestop. Can the 940xm be pushed farther? If so, by how much. The difference in price between the two is ~$120 depending on the vender. Is the i7 940xm worth the extra $120?

Well in the M17x, the difference is less pronounced. In the M15x, the 940xm is able to achieve 27x across all cores whereas the 920xm only achieves 26x. Both of which are overkill :) I have a OEM 920xm if you want and if my current buyer falls through.

Goto hwbot.org and search each processor. They are equal when it comes to throttle stop. I have both chips.

^ True, when it comes to extreme benching you can do crazy thing with both, the 920xm is even a bit faster in some tests at Hwbot ;)

Oh, I'd love to visit the US again... :)
I can send you some pictures if you want, let me know! You only need some very thin wire and a steady hand, a magnifying glass can be handy as well.
The last mod I did was +0.3V, pretty extreme, but great results.

The best would be if you first measure your stock CPU voltage, but there shouldn't be a huge difference to mine... so it should work just the same.

Yea, let me see. If yor ever near D.C. you have a place to crash. With more voltage i can bench my 720 and 540m and score MOAR boints! ;) And join the T|I team

Plus i have the 75mV and 150mV bios options. 5ghz possible on the 920xm?!
