My friend has a m17x but he doesnt know what video cards it has, is there some program that lists all the hardware in the system, i've tried gpu-z but it only shows 9400m obviously he's in discrete mode, how does he switch the modes? If theres a program that can detect everything that would be great. Would hwinfo32 show the information of all video cards 9400m included?

ha believe me i've done all that, but he has 9400m in it. I can't imagine a m17x only running a 9400m unless that is the case?

EDIT: it seems to be something more hardware specific or something which only shows the 9400m in discrete mode and i would like to know how to confirm it to be in performance mode and verify.

That's because you need to plug the m17x to the sector(not running on battery) go to BIOS (press F2 multiple times just to make sure when you turn it on) and disable Integrated graphics. The m17x sould use eighter the ATi or nVidia now in windows and you can do what menengroth told you.

By DEFAULT the BIOS remembers it had been on battery which means the 9400 will be the GPU of choice you have to go into the BIOS to set it for the other GPU(s) to be active, it's a strange process.
