if so could you give me a run down of your settings you did this with, and possibly some screen shots.

    thanks

1.9 ghz overclock in each core..
    thats hot!
I have seen QX9300 going upto 4.3 ghz but for this one, I have no idea.

You could get it there, but you wouldn't want to do anything other than maybe run a benchmark to prove you did it. It will be way too hot.

yeah i just need it 4.0 for long enough to run 06, vantage, or 11

i don't think that will be possible, the highest i was able to maintain while running vantage or 06 is 3.6GHz which is ok for daily use..

something about being the highest running Vantage and being OK for daily use seems to be a red flag to me. Most people seem to be able to get a stable daily use config and then also one they use for benching which would be higher. It is hard to believe that your daily use is also your absolute max used for benching. Note, I am not saying you are lying but that it is almost an outlier situation that isn't applicable to most who OC.

To the OP I would not really recommend finding a max just for sole benching purposes unless you have good idea of computer and cooling. If you have done a retention mod and are like most who bench on the forum; good luck then as you know what you are doing!

i'm going to take a trick out of another members book and use my chest freezer for cooling! lmao

and its hard to believe that 3.6 is the max, when with the 5% OC in the bios that puts it at 3.53
4.0+ w/ turbo boost is fine. cpu-z can't tell the difference anyway.

Did you do the basic math to figure out how high you need to take multipliers given a 133mhz FSB or even a 145mhz FSB. You will need extreme cooling using portable air conditioners or chest freezers. Along with that at 133mhz FSB all 4 cores need to be at 30x. If you overclock the FSB then you would need multi at 27-28x.

Set your cores to 30x and 133mhz and see if it is stable. Then try 27x all 4 cores at 140mhz FSB. Just keep playing around but i hope you did research into CPU degradation at high voltage/high heat for continous time and have some $$$ in the bank to replace XM chips like Dr650SE when pushing heavy loads. In reality 3.5ghz is more than plenty but telling your friends your laptop pushes 4.0ghz add like 17" to your e-peen :p

Is that 4.3ghz on 1 core with turbo, or 4.3ghz on all 4 cores without turbo?

With turbo, my 820qm can do 3.6-3.7ghz on 1 core . . . so I'm just curious. Not saying you didn't do it.

Edit. You're multiplier is at 31x, so maybe that does mean you're running all 4 cores at that speed . AS you can tell, I'm not fully knowledgeable on overclocking these chips. All I do are fsb OC's as I can't change the multipliers :/ Highest fbs speed i've gotten was 158mhz which was stable for a quick bench, but not much else.

Not to derail the topic, but is there any way at all to change the multipliers past stock on the non extreme chips?

If you run ThrottleStop or the summary in HWInfo32, you'll see what speed your CPU is really running at. While running Prime95, slowly raise your TPL and/or multiplier. You'll see that ~3Ghz across all four cores is probably a more realistic expectation. 4Ghz stable across all four cores during a Prime95 run? That is unrealistic. 3Ghz stable across four cores during a Prime95 run is quite amazing though.

I'm pretty sure 3.6ghz on all 4 cores is an easily stable clock for most chips.

i agree. 3GHz stable on all four cores on full wPrime load without raising any voltage and keeping temperature in check is what im getting right now. anything above that is not worth the trade-off (increase voltage, massive increase in cpu temperature, etc) in my opinion.

3.6GHz during full load on all four cores is not an easy task even for extreme cpus. it requires a lot of monitoring, testing, tweaking etc. no easy feat. sure it's possible, but it's not easy and it's way too hot.

I can run 4+Ghz idling on the desktop, but I'm telling you that once a load is placed on the CPU, things change dramatically. I've got my CPU heatsink retention modded, so it will put up with a much higher TDP. I could probably hit 3.2Ghz stable on all four cores while sitting just under the throttle temperature. Anyone who disagrees needs to monitor their actual core speeds while under load. It's a whole new ballgame.

I run my cpu at 90-100w TDP for daily use. Temps hit about 88*. That's under 100% load. No voltage increase. The higher the wattage the higher multiplier you will get. Don't remember but i think 90w will get you 24x and 100w will get 25x. Don't remember exactly and don't have my system with me. Thats assuming you cpu heatsync is seated and adjusted properly. 90% of m17x R2s have a poorly adjusted cpu heatsync.

920xm highest I could do this was last year in October

    CPU-Z Validator 3.1

    For everyday usage stable settings

25x @ 133mhz with TDP/TDC 90/70...temps stay below 85 degree on load and my final result is 3.3ghz across all 4 cores. I can hit 3.5ghz-3.8ghz across all cores but not worth it for increase voltage, TDP and high temps. Below 3.5ghz is the sweet spot for everyday usage with keeping temps in check.

I was thinking 3.3 or 3.5 on 4 cores as a daily use. Is it realistic? or should i point lower than this?

when i say stable all i meant was that it won't crash the lappy as soon as i set it at 4.0
i want to get a cpu-z SS of a 4.0 ghz clock, and run one single benchmark of 3dmark 06. this is something i would do once, for 10 mins and never again. so it only needs to be stable for that long.

as i said before i can put the lappy in the freezer while it's doing the bench also.

Its not the temps im worried about, its the struggling to reach 3.2ghz on all cores at anything below 100 tdp when running prime95.
This doesnt seem normal compared to some others in this forum

This is what im currently getting with all multis set at 25x

Current Tstop settings for everyday use:
    Clock Modulation: 100%
    Chipset Clock Mod: 100%
    Set Multiplier: 100%

    Turbo Ratio Limits:
    28 / 28 / 27 / 27

    Turbo Power Limits:
    TDP: 93W
    TDC: 75A

With these settings I'm currently at around 3.6ghz. I tried using 5% factory overclocking WITH Tstop enabled and got BSOD in Wprime 32. If I leave my Throttlestop settings as so without factory OC, should it remain stable?

Edit: Also, how do you set Throttlestop to turn on on startup?

Are you getting x27 across all cores when you run them fully loaded on that TDP?

If so then that is insane and you have one hell of a chip compared to me ;)

I think so but it's also getting uncomfortably hot. I turned on folding@home and HWinfo32 just for kicks and the temps were in the 90s. I'm just wondering what someone with some experience might suggest for everyday Throttlestop settings. I'm not looking to bench, just looking to get a little more power out of the chip without melting it :D

Ive just started to get into this since upgrading to the 940xm, but from what experienced so far i can get away with 90/75 TDP to give me about 3.2ghz across all cores with a top temp under load of 84c

I think i will use this as my day to day setting if all goes well

The only way for mine to go x27 multi all cores is to increase the voltage in the bios an extra 150mv and TDP above 120w but then my temps skyrocket.

27x across all cores is not possible unless your doing something extreme to cool the chip and have the voltage raised. The heatsink just isn't made to dissipate that much heat.

Look at it this way, unless your doing F@h, nothing is going ot put the CPU at 100% load. F@h basically requires the CPU to be set at stock clocks with out and TDP raised. For me that got my CPU around 84°C when I left it running non stop for over a week.

Anyone who thinks they are getting a sustained 27x or even 26x on all cores is not looking to carefully. That will generate a lot of heat.

Oh, and to get throttle stop to load on boot set it up through the task scheduler to start. Make sure TS is set to the prefered profile.

If not folding I normally run a 85-90w/75, with 5% bios OC and 25x on all cores. But if I'm gaming, since I have 6990s, I have to run the CPU at stock with a 5% OC due to the 6990M powerdraw.
