is there a proper breakin procedure for the AW laptops?
-
I usually have a procedure that involves reinstalling the OS onto my own SSD, a few software optimisations for the SSD (this on is a learning curve, the more you research the more you know). And of course a repaste. Dell's paste is designed for endurance so the performance is sub-par. Then it's just down to your own personal preference. Plenty of guides and tutorials on these forums to help you get started

Mine is coming with the 256GB msata, so I was going to leave the OS on that. Probably switch the 750GB spinner to a 840 PRO. Have looked for a benchmark on the mSATA 256, can't find one. really was wondering about heat cycles with a benchmark tool.
thanks for the reply. -
Not really any need for a SSD as a secondary drive unless you are using it to store data for video editing.

I completely benched and burnin tested my M17X R4 the first month of its usage.
Overclocked it heavily to find its limitations, and ran 3dmark11 and 3dmark firestrike along with Kombuster and other benchmarks to find the laptops limitations. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Benchmarks are okay at first to make sure your hardware is up to spec with similar machines, clean installs are only if you don't find it good enough (stock SSDs usually should be okay).

1. Unpack.
2. Install Windows.
3. Install games.
4. Get to work. -
+1

No break-in period needed.

1.1 Use respawn to create a recovery disk
1.2 Remove unneeded 3rd party bloatware (if you don't want those applications, such as antivirus) -
