Hello, Richard, you'll need to blind flash your BIOS and all should be fine if you follow the steps correctly:

Superdave643 had the same problem after setting graphics to PCIe and was able to resolve it without doing a blind flash by following the steps here: Alienware Mobiles - 5 Beeps after turning ON the system | Dell. See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/657358-bios-setting-changed-now-8-beeps.html (check Post 7). If you're uncomfortable doing a blind flash, you might try this.

have you tried reinstalling the vid card drivers?

I have tried, it failed to reinstall the base drivers ( version 267 i think?) as well.

hmmm, have you tried reseating your card?

yea, i took it out and put it back in, still doesnt work. when i flashed my bios though, i took out the card beforehand. i dont know if that affects anything.
Edit: i set the display to PEG mode instead of the default SG and the drivers installed successfully now. Why is that?
laptop wont boot
