I just downloaded and installed Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)version 3.1.105. and it has sliders for the multipliers or you can use the little arrow to adjust them.Sorry for the double post, don't know how I did that.

what is your CPU right now, and what have you set your multiplier to?
-
Well heres the bad news, my stock multipliers on a 3820qm are 37,36,35,35 the most you can go is 41,40,39,39
-
Post a pic of you running those speeds, a benchmark maybe, or a screenshot of CPU-Z with that frequency. Pretty sure you have to restart to actually use them. Most likely it's a bug, since you need an unlocked bios for it to even save the settings... and QM chips are factory locked..

can you set it to 41,40,39,39 and run a test...i'm at work right now and can't unfortunately. Run 3dmark with it set to 41 and see if it actually sticks and your score increases. If it does, then you are one LUCKY SOB
-
Is this for real? Definitely need more info. Seems too good to be true.

I'm not able to post any screenshots,I can't even upload an avatar keeps saying invalid file.Anyway I did a Vantage run this morning and everything was stock:Gpu score 22330,Cpu 24484 total score 22382 I just did another one with Cpu at 41,40,39,39 Gpu 22375 Cpu 25723 total score 23126

Can you post the link of the 3dmark vantage score? It should say your CPU speed there
I'll be testing this in 1hr
i hope it works on Sandy Bridge too -
if the latest version works with sandy bridge, thats good enough for me. I will subscribe to this thread to see how things turn out

rep+ for your discovery -
Wow, that's pretty sweet! Waiting for you to test it too SlickDude.

I'm testing this as soon as i get home!! I will update this thread soon

Slick someone mentioned Afterburner for OC the gpu I like Trixx myself.Have you used AB and is it easy to work with?
-
The CPU score does not reflect 3.9Ghz in the slightest
-
I suspect he cranked up the BLCK like I did, thats why we have an odd number like that.
For adjusting the base speed, this would definitely be better and safer than doing so in the bios, which would usually freeze or shut down the laptop.
I pushed mine up to 106.0Mhz and it seems kinda scary @.@. And thats the limit, any more than that and my laptop froze then shut down. -
Getting an extra 200Mhz is nice, regardless of how it's done. Is there any danger in changing the BLCK?
-
@Op Can you download Throttlestop, run a 32M bench and take a screenshot of the main window whilst it does it, and upload for us on an imagehost since the forum upload is not working..

Since Vantage utilises 4 cores, the 3820QM will run at 3.5Ghz and the 3920XM will run at 3.6Ghz
Stock 3820QM scores 24484 CPU - result in first page
Stock 3920XM scores 25534 CPU - AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M18xR2 score: P22508 3DMarks
I think that OP's 3820QM scores 25721 CPU thanks to a) BCLK overclock and b) unlimited turbo
So seeing as an extra 100Mhz on 4 cores is approx 1k in Vantage, 3.9Ghz on 4 cores should yield... 27-28k CPU

UPDATE:
At least for sandy Bridge non-XM Processors, the newest version of XTU 3.1.105.5 does not allow for the changing of the multiplier -
I can confirm SlickDude's claim...Sadly this does not work for Sandy Bridge QM CPUs
3.xx actually has less features than 2.xx did...So I might as well reinstall the older version. -

I'm supposed to receive my R4 on tuesday and I will definitely give this a go to see if it works on mine as well.
Will keep you guys posted! -
The newest version of XTU also does not work with the 2920XM CPU on my M18x. The multiplier settings are grayed out. As Bartlett pointed out, the usable feature set is reduced as well. XTU 2.1 is still the version to use.
latest version of XTU-unlocked multipliers for QM
