hey guys. i just bought an m17x this morning and i'm noticing that i'll get a few little green squares here and there on my screen. it happened the first time i opened the command center and it went away when i closed the window. its always in random spots and it goes away if i close a window. it was just on my desktop for a few minutes and now its gone. its usually about 10-12 of them and they dont flash or anything and they aren't very big.

i havent tried playing any games yet. i just installed swtor and i guess i'll see what happens.

is this a bad video card?

should i try to go exchange it or is this something that is easily fixed? i got it at compusa.

    this one.

thanks for any help. kind of bummed my brand new notebook is doing this.

i just looked in my directX diagnostics and its not reporting any problems with the video card.

maybe its a driver issue? i'm not the best with computers so again, any help is greatly appreciated.

Try playing games first, then see what happens.

i played SWTOR for an hour and a half and it seemed fine. i didnt see any of them on the screen and i was running it with all settings on high. getting 60fps consistently and the computer stayed nice and cool the whole time.

there still was one hanging out in the corner of my firefox window.

i tried plugging into a different monitor and it showed up.

i restarted a while ago and everything has been fine.

here's what it looked like. [IMG]

random clusters of those and then just that one little jerk in the corner there.

i've had little green and purple squares show up in 3d apps in the past.
and it was always due to a faulty video card. in my case the card stopped working after a while.

not a good sign, i'd go as far to say your video card is dying.
like serephucus said, try playing games and see if it appears in those.

it can be a sign of overheating, however if it's doing it while the temps are good, the card may be permanantly damaged.
in that case, i'd be asking for a replacement.

I've had this before. On a much much worse scale as in square everywhere and then, reboot. The problem for me was that the backplate on the GPU wasn't insulated enough. I had a feeling a bit of metal was touching the PCB. I just put some insulated tape between the backplate and GPU and it was sorted.
