I bought an m17x r3 from the outlet which was told was a cancelled order of sort and was in perfect condition.

upon receiving it i noticed a subtle chip in the screen i wouldnt of otherwise noticed, on further inspection i noticed there were scratches UNDER the screen. few marks also here and there, i contacted dell and i was told there was a factory error and that i would needd it replacing and sorry.

they said they would find a better spec laptop from the outlet or spec me a brand new one like for like.

now my question is, as it has a 2720qm and a 6970m what direction will they go as considering these are no longer build options, what would i be looking at if they were to build me a new one. and if they have options from the outlet, what is a resonable request ?

2720 are still plentiful out there, so they are seen all over the outlet...if you're lucky, they'll upgrade u to 6990m

then they'll give you a 2670...if you get yourself a nice assessor, they might throw in the 2760 which is a far superior CPU.

    So 2760 and 6990m if you're lucky

could i argue that if they gave me a 2670 that it wouldnt have the instruction set that the 2720 2760 has ? im not going to be sad if i get a 2670, by all means, its got the same clocks as my current one.

well...the 2720 turbos to 3.3ghz (optimal) while the 2670 turbos to 3.1ghz (optimal) so from this perspective, they should put you up to a 2760

im about to get ordered a new m17x r3 from dell, i was just wondering what screen it ships with now. i hear the AU v4 is the best to have, the one i have of current is an LG as seen in HWINFO and i dont rate it so great.

    cheers guys

The AUO ones only come with the XPS 17 if you order it with B+RG. The Alienwares have LG ones. You can of course buy a AUO v4 yourself but that would take considerable modding.

    In a nutshell, no.

You get what's available during manufacturing. You cannot determine what brand of LCD gets put into your notebook, only the resolution and whether if you want 60 Hz (Optimus/PowerXPress) or 120 Hz (3D Vision).

The fact is that the AUO v4 costs way more money as it has a higher gamut. It is considered an upgrade which is why you can order the XPS with a standard one or a b+rg one. The M17x doesn't have this option so the answer is no unless you have significant influence with Dell.

but we pay entheusiast prices so wouldnt be alright to assume wed expect entheusiast parts ? its a bit of a step down from the r2 it seems too.

There are only a few LCD manufacturers out there that make decent gaming panels. LG as it stands IS one of the top-line LCD panel manufacturers. As a matter of fact, my 120 Hz panel is an LG and I've been fairly impressed with it.

I love my 120Hz LG one too. Sure it isn't 95% gamut and it isn't as vibrant as the other premium ones but it is mighty bright and reasonably accurate. Plus I can rock out 3D. Gimmick or not, it is a nice plus.

right so when i first got it i installed the dell 11.9 drivers and worked ok, but system seemed a little slow, would go to 20 fps in deus ex and would score low in vantage so i tried to find better drivers

seems theyre driver install thingy is the most silliest thing ive ever seen, not like nvidia. so everything else i install it just fails and when i right click theres no catylyst centre or ability to switch gfx cards.

now trying to clean install 11.9 from dell, no can do screen is stuck in vga mode now. driver install fails, ive tried driver sweeper and still nothing, really fed up with amd. if i clear all drivers from the system, where can i find THEE LATEST driver. that works.

Sounds like you're having lots of fun with installing drivers lol

For some people, and i don't know why, they just have a hard time with the driver updates

The official 11.10 drivers from AMD will be released on Halloween. I assume you don't want to wait 4 days so get the 11.10 preview V3 here. These will be nearly identical to the official 11.10's

new 11.10 preview 3 drivers available... - Rage3D Discussion Area

after finding out my refurb laptop was a scratch and dent, dell bent over backwards to rectify their error and have ordered me a brand new m17x r3, i was assigned a guy called paul whos been there every step of the way, with daily/4 hourly emails on progress and general query help.

Whats best they upgraded the specs and changed it to a nebula red model. not sure how nebula red looks on the m17x's soft body but i wanted to take the gamble cos it looks so good in pics. so the specs:

    2760qm
    6990m
    nebula red
    8gb ram
    1080p screen
    intel 6300
    750gb 7200 rpm drive
    bluetooth 375
    bluray rom dvd rw
    home premium sp1 w7

he gave me 2 years warranty and 2 years accidental damage in there too

so happy, feel like a king tbh, i was polite and patient through out and i guess it paid off.

soon as i get it im going to get clocking that 6990!

when clocked to around 800mhz, how much faster than my 6970m is it i wonder, hope it plays bf3 on ultra too.

    so stoked!

    man, you are lucky! :D

The stock 6990 is about 20-25% faster than a stock 6970 (depending on the app)

    Wow...really?

When I had issues with outlet, they kept on sending me refurbs until the 3rd refurb I just gave up and asked for my money back.

So I bought another outlet a few weeks ago and besides it missing a few screws, missing the alienhead LED and the trackpad primary mouse button squeaking its a decent laptop...

I have been having problems with dell support for years.Im so happy to see some people getting new better replacements and upgraded warranties, that's awesome guys! I have found that its all relative I know people who've given up after no joke 10 or more replacements,Im a pc builder so I realize some don't have to be replaced but like my 8 replacements were for multiple bad motherboards and blown out gpu's and just plain terrible treatment to even get areplacement.1st time it took an hour to get a new upgraded unit,so naturaly one would believe you should't have to go through weeks of BS only to get a replacement anyway.Bottom line,I hope you guys are still happy next year if you have to do this game with dell again.I thought I was the luckiest guy alive on my 1st one, after a year of dell hell,I just want to choke someone.LOL,but seriously good luck to us all.And I am so happy to read a positive resolution after reading so many going the other way.
