just kidding the size diference is barely visible -
-
they say it's not the size it's how you use it....lol
-
-
try it then -
but the issue(well not issue rather concern for some) is weight.. i am not going by figures... i had the m15x and now the m17x, size wise you will find a lil difference but weight is an obvious factor that I noticed as soon as i picked m17x...
-
The main difference is depth and weight. My m17x weighs over 12lbs.
-
I picked up a m17x from the outlet and have a m15x as well which i will be selling pretty soon but i will take some good pics and post up...unit is in production and i will call in to get it expedited to overnight so hopefully before the end of the week i can post something up right now ETD is 10/18/10

Interesting, anyone know why the m17x is significantly heavier?

The metals they are made out of and the internals, you have dual gpu's dual heat sinks a thicker large internal case thing for lack of a better term. The m17x may not be much bigger outside diamater but it's got a LOT more inside of it.

^^^^^^ this guys know his stuff he has owned all three m11x, m15x and m17x and yes the aluminum versus magnesium. larger screen and dual gpu, 8 cell battery versus 6 cell on m15x and everything else mentioned
EDIT: OOPS...9 cell battery on the m17x...i told you the guy know his stuff.

It's actually a 9 cell battery standard on the m17x faiz not 8 cell. The m11x is an 8 cell.
-
Aluminum is heavy guys..
Find 1 brand of notebook that come with full aluminum casing like Alienware.. -
-
holy lord did we open up a Mac vs PC debate....i am going to step aside and just watch from the sidelines.
-
I believe the Envy has an aluminum exterior.

LOL I should probably take the high road like faiz but I'll bite, why the heck would you bring up a Mac in an AW forum? That's like discussing the performance of a pinto while driving a Lamborghini Reventon.
-
somehow forgot APPLE !!!
LOL -
I don't understand
M11x - 8 cell standard
M17x - 9 cell standard
M15x - 6 cell standard (9 cell optional) why in the world would they do that? Why not just get rid of 6 cell and give 9 cell as a standard. It also helps with the cooling and I can finally watch a movie fully on a single charge. (Couldn't watch a movie fully on my old 6 cell). -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Still if you press really hard on a mac pro it will still feel like it can brake any second. try doing that on the m17x. Its the magnesium shell in the m17 that makes the difference here.

i have a bad feelling about this thread now that we mentioned macs
but as a side note my alienware m17 with plastic black mate finish looked morre capable of handeling hit and i can lift all 12 lbs of the laptop by holding only one corner withouth hearing a crack i'm not sure what the internal component holder is made of though it does not feel like plastic -
Weight difference and size wouldn't bother me between the M15x & M17x. They are both big and a little weighty, I would not classify them as mainstream or a dime a dozen, that's what I like about them.
However I would classify them as a connoisseur's or an aficionado's notebook. -
Don't forgot if you don't do say manual labor or body builder you can use your m17x to ease into things like arm extensions or to add some extra resitance to sit ups.....
just saying -
I really don't get why they didn't give the M15x 2x HDD bays. I'm sure they could've fit 2 in there. Heck, I bet the M15x could even have CF. (Okay, maybe not with the the 2x HDD, but I'm sure it's possible w/ 1xHDD) :S
