the m17 in the us with the 460m $1,549.00(£996.077423 British pounds)

    the m17 in the uk everything the same £1,482.50 + 20% vat = £1,779.00 ($2 797.60935 U.S. Dollars)

    before vat £1,482.50 - £996.077423 = £486.42

so in essece we're paying £486.42 extra for what exactly?.

If that is the case why is the r2 more expensive on the US site, on the UK site it's cheaper! That doesn't tell the whole story now does it? The pricing is blatantly unacceptable on the UK site, I urge people not to ever buy it! I can't see why shipping from China to the US is so much cheaper than China to the UK.

Yeh I'd consider buying one... seriously. However, for the pricing you are better off getting an m15x discounted. Or if you really want sandy go with another company in protest.

You should check the prices in euro's, it's even slightly worse then the prices in pounds.
We pay about exactly the same numbers as americans do, but then the dollar sign is replaced with a euro sign ><

probably cheaper to fly to the USA and buy one and bring ti back Duty Free, or find a friend / family member over here to order one for you and ship it back.

disgraceful, said many a time. i reckon they do it so subsidise cheaper laptops initially elsewhere like the states where most of their business is. even if you add VAT and taxes in this country the base r3 should not be that more expensive than the r2.

Haa.. May be they don't want us to buy it. Or care enough. How can they claim it would be cheaper in ces and jack up the price?? Unacceptable. But did you guys call in to see if they are providing any discounts?? I got £600 discount from the dells website price for my R2.

"Pricing and availability: starts at $1,499 available on January 10, 2011 (that date will vary by region)"

The UK has always had quite a bit higher prices on new computers than the USA so why did you think this one would be any different? Rather than complaining about it why don't you either A)Find someone in the US to buy you one and ship it B)Find another laptop that still fits your needs/wants at a more reasonable price?

I agree that it's not right but trust me you're not going to change Alienware's(Dell's really) mind on this, this entire forum couldn't do that so why lose sleep over it?

I was annoyed by the whole page - when i checked it was:

    1) c£1800 vs c£1500, that's a good 80% or more differential when we're used to £ for $ (i.e. £1500 expectation)
    2) webpage says AMD 6000 series GPU but configurator only offers Nvidia 460m
    3) inconsistent approach where other models have "Upgrade options" showing the max CPU (i.e. i7 920xm) while this shows the base CPU (i.e. i7 2630qm).

The cost to upgrade CPU at £240 is a bit extreme and they've thankfully removed the c£120,000 cost for 32 gigs ram. The Ram pricing is inconsistent, with the 6gb ram having a 2gb & 4gb module @ £180, while the 16gb ram has 4*4gb modules for £750 (c£187.50 each).

Overall this feels like a poor exercise in increasing margin which will ultimately end in losing customers to other brands. I expect a higher price than the US (i.e. dollar for pound) but not these excessive prices beyond that.

If that's how every one had thought we wouldn't have achieved anything in this world. I don't know if things will change with alienware/dell here but doesn't mean you can't discuss it, that's exactly why you have forums everywhere. It's more consumer to consumer here than consumer to business. We are all consumers here.

I'm not against discussing it by any means, I appologize if I came accross that way. I'm just trying to say if you knew the half of what I've been through with Dell/Alienware in the last 12 months and not once successfully got them to change, the same thing has happened to a lot of forum members and Dell still hasn't shown any even inkling of changing so all I was saying is the odds are pretty slim. I also tried to just make 2 other recommendations on ways around it.

I WILL be blatently honest....even if i wanted to buy an R3 which i do not, (and I am in the UK), there is no way on earth that i would pony up for the price they are asking for it....£1799 for base spec....man, you have gotta be kiddin me....

No offence to anyone who is buying an R3 but christ, thats close to £2k for a laptop which comes nowhere near its expectations.

For there to be such a huge price difference...£1000gbp or $1300usd between the two simply cos one is bought in the us and one the uk is wrong....i dont care what you say about import / vat / customs...its robbery on a grand scale.

I mean, it would be cheaper, as i posted on another thread, to fly out to the states, buy one, unpack it and fly back.

Or like DaveP says, get someone in the US to post it on to you....still cheaper.

But really, bottom line for me is that it just aint worth £1800gbp....I would go out and buy an Asus instead, sorry Dell but if i WAS in the market for your "R3", id be telling you to go shove it where the sun dont shine....

    End of rant lol.

DONT DO THAT!!! - just cos you may think the R3 sucks, man, you could get a great deal on an R2 that will blow your pants off, its that good.

Dont give up hope on AW just cos of this one revision...sure as eggs are eggs, there WILL be something that comes along soon enough that actually DOES replace the R2 in terms of overall gaming performance...right now, R2 is still king of the hill imho - the R3 is simpy a marketing revision as a "stop gap" to bolster sales and take some business away from Asus' G73 3d laptop.

If you really wanted the M17x R3 for the 3D, I really suggest you look at HP Envy 17 3D.... I am waiting for the SB version. Much sexier than the M17x. Best wishes.

dude. we know that the uk price lists are at least 30% - 40% more from vat and taxes. but do me a favour.

LOOK AT THE R3 PRICES ON THE UK SITE VS THE R2, NOW GO TO THE US SITE AND CHECK THE R2 AND R3 PRICES BY COMPARISON.

if you take a blind bit of notice the r3 on us is well priced vs the other models it is even cheaper at stock than the r2. on the uk site you will pay an extra $400on the r2 just for stock with 1 gpu option. so no this is not normal. instead of inflaming the situation why not compare realistically and not brush it off as a foreign problem when we are dealing with the same corporation.

Im not too sure what discounts the US get off their "list" prices, but when i got mine i got 22% off the UK list price for the machine I specced up as i wanted it.

Maybe not the best discount, some get more, some get less, its about what your happy in paying etc.
