Hi all i'm new to this forum but i've been following it for a while.
Two week ago i've changed my dead hd 6990m to a 8970m but i've been experienced several problem.
Yesterday while playing diablo 3 my screen freeze and had to shout pc down. Now my gpu running pci 2.0 8x instead of 16x and sometime freeze(2 other time from yesterday).
I'm using 13.10-130427a-157860C-MSI driver my cpu is intel 2760qm, temperature of both cpu and gpu are fine.
In windows device manager all seems fine, is that a chipset problem or graphic driver?
    Any suggestion is appreciate.

Are you aware that 6990m is the latest card that is recommended for the m17xR3? I've heard of people getting away with the 7970m but I don't recall anyone being able to use a 8970m in the m17xR3....From my understanding, if you go anything later than the 6990m then you need to get modded drivers....Don't quote me on that. You might be able to find a solution on the AWArena forums if no one here can give you help.

To my knowledge, the 8970M is the same thing as the 7970M, just a different bios on the card itself. However, that poses new problems as the different bios wasn't accounted for, thus creating the same issue as before when legitimate drivers weren't released.

Are you sure temps are fine? If it froze and shut down, that sounds like a temperature issue. Your temperatures sitting at the desktop mean very little in all reality, though what are they? Can you inform me of this?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
To monitor temperature i'm using gpu-z, in idle goes from 40-50 c and on load from 55-64 c usually.
Earlyer today i've updated chipset driver and now seems like there are no more system crush but the vga still using only 8x bus interface is that of any importance?

So today while using matlab my pc went black screen. after rebooting it got 6 bit(video/chipset failure). Now still got nothing on screen tryed 30 second unlplug battery and fn+power, tryed bios reset by unplugging bios battery. I'm guessing chipset is dead , anyone can confirm that?
