Right now I am getting a GTX 460 on my m17x. However later on I may go with another card, but since I have a 120 Hz screen, it will have to be nvidia based.

Question though, is the BIOS forcing the nvidia + 120 hz option, or is it just the way things are between the two? I never was too sure of that on a laptop.

Also, since the embedded GPU is disabled, what type of battery life am I looking at?

If 3d is a must you can opt for a 580m and get the alienware 3d monitor (120MHz screen) for 449 or the combo with the 3d projector and glasses for 500/550 and externally watch 3d content. This is the option i'm going because I want 3d and don't want to be stuck with the 460. From the forums you should see 3 1/2 hrs of battery life and 4-4 1/2 if you disable wifi, bluetooth and turn the screen down.

The internal 120hz screen has a higher GAMUT rating which means better colors and brightness.

You *CAN* replace the 460M in the 3D model with a 580M but you will lose 3D playback unless you use an external monitor. It gives you the best screen you can get + the best GPU you can get. You will spend a bit more since the 580M by itself is about $800 anyway, unless anyone knows the Dell P/N and knows what they are selling them at standalone now, for.
