I purchased a QAVR Q9200 from laptop monkey on ebay and spent the weekend trying to get it working. At this point I'm assuming the chip is DOA but I wanted to get another opinion on the matter. The system runs fine with the P8600 that it came with. When I switch over to the Q9200 the system powers up but does not post (there are no error codes or error beeps to be heard) and all of the LEDs light up as they normally would (nothing flashing oddly, etc.). I'm currently running bios version A06, have a singe GTX 260M video card, and have 8gb of 1333mhz ram installed. So far I've gone through resetting the bios to defaults before upgrading, reflashing A06 after resetting to defaults then upgrading, pulling the bios battery and letting the system sit for several minutes before upgrading, holding the power button down for 30 seconds with the battery and power supply removed after upgrading. Any additional thoughts would be appreciated as I want to make sure this thing is definitely DOA before I send it back.

Do you have another computer to try the chip in? That'd confirm DOA or not.

To me it sounds like the chip is DOA. I had a DOA Pentium M many years ago, and when I tried it in my laptop, basically the exact same symptoms were witnessed.

Sadly I don't have anything else around that will support the CPU.

You held the power button down for 30 seconds while the AC adapter, battery, and CMOS battery were all removed? It is important that ALL three are removed. You could also try booting with only one stick of RAM, and then the other, to see if there's something going on there. Those are both pretty lame things to try. Just throwing them out there.

Can see the CPU in the BIOS? If not, try re-seating the CPU again (you'll have to re-apply thermal compound of course).

What exactly do you see once you depress the power button? Do you see the Alien Head?

After confirming that the CPU is seated properly and it continues to fail, yep - send it back.

I actually tried all of these options and had the same issue.

Once the power button is depressed I get no video at all. The keyboard leds light up like normal and the fans spin up momentarily but then I get nothing on the screen and the fans spin down to a lower level. I've swapped between the P8600 and the Q9200 five times this weekend and each time the P8600 posts with no problem and the Q9200 gives me a repeat performance of no post.

Sounds like this processor is going back for sure. I just hope the next one I get is good!
