Yes, I searched google and these forums. I'm read a ton of posts, but I am still left a bit unclear on a few questions.
1) Is there (or isn't there) a LG version of the RGB screen for the R2? I have seen the part number LP171WU5 thrown around, but I can't confirm it even works on the R2. Is it even true that is superior to the Samsung RGB?
2) In either case, if I am upgrading from the 1440 CCFL, I "only" need the screen and the cable? Everything else is already present in my R2?
Dell Alienware M17x LCD Cable (17")
Samsung LTN170CT08 LCD 17.0" WUXGA
I really appreciate any help on this. I did my research, I swear. I just couldn't find anything definitive.

Hi. Makvu, in case you missed this thread I already answered that question.
It should work, just remember to perform a full power drain after install.
Also I hope you are aware that changing it is not that easy and risky.

Katalin, I certainly read that entire thread. And that is partly why I am confused. There are some others that call that into question.

He ran into problems with the cabling, but it was unclear if the proper cable would have fixed the problem.
Further, in the thread you linked to, the last two pages seem to leave the question unanswered.

Please let me know how this works out. I'm on the fence about whether to buy a LG LP171WU5 TL A2 or Samsung LTN170CT08 (not sure which revision). I know that I'll need a HP693 cable, but outside of that the forums seem ambiguous.

makwu as I'm in the same spot like you, there isn't anything saying they won't work and no inverter is needed.
The real problem, is going to the the disassembling the front part of the LCD panel (the part with the plexy in front). As far as I read, they are kinda stuck together with the LCD (glued I think) and this will be your real issue.
My recommendation - buy the LCD and cable. When you get them, hook up everything (the cable to the LCD), open the laptop and remove the cables from the current LCD and just hook up the new LCD as it is hanging and power up the laptop. If it works and the screen displays whatever is needed, then start thinking of how the replace the old LCD with the new one in the panel. This is going to be your biggest problem.
