    Hey Guys

I know this has been asked a few times on here but I never saw a definative answer, Currently I have the standard 1440x900 screen but I wanted to upgrade to the 1920x1200 one and have just bought one off ebay. I googled the part number listed and it is actually the RGB LED one (0J2CY8).
A friend told me you cant just go and upgrade the screene as the invertor could not take it? also is there a power requirement differance?

Here is my current Set up

    Core i7 920
    4GB DDR3 1333mhz
    ATI 5870m 1gb
    500GB Free Fall + 320GB Free Fall

I seem to have bottle knecking issues with my current set up in games that require hardly and graphical power, I play League of legends and runescape a lot and unless I severely cap everything in the options they are both unplayable. I have installed fresh Win 7 and fresh drivers from the ATI website as well as reverting to the drivers in the complete drivers list on these forums and I still have issues.

    Cheers for the responses.

    Hello and welcome to NBR.

If you found the whole assembly, then you don't need anything else.

As for upgrading options to improve gameplay , your processor is the best you can get (excepting the 940xm which has 133Mhz on top of the 920xm). On the other hand you can replace the mobility 5870 with something better like single/dual Clevo mobility 6970/6990 or single dual 580M. I would recommend the AMD cards if you don't like tinkering with your system too much.

Eventually search for how to overclock your CPU as it's quite a beast paired with Throttlestop.

I updated the Vbios on it a while ago and yes it is the whole assembly minus the aluminium back which I am taking off my current screen. I just realised that the CPU is actually the 720. I have torn down other m17xs and I can swap the CPU's no probs.

Well if that's the case, just swap the lids and install your new screen.
You might need to perform a power drain after:
-unplug the power cord and battery from your system.
-take off the back plate held by the two screws.
-unplug the CMOS coincell battery located near the system fan
-press the power button for ~30 seconds.

The games you listed are quite CPU intensive and the 920 will help.
If you have the 920xm and some thermal paste on hand already swap it at the same time.

Hey sorry for the mislead, I thought originally that I had the 920 but it is actually the 720qm 1.6ghz. I will look around for a better CPU within the next few months if you think that it would help.
With the power drain is it not the same as unplugging the cord, removing the battery and holding down the power button for 20 secs? If it is not would removing the cmos battery and doing it your way somehow help currently?

I really dislike my 5870m compared to the old 260GTXM I used to have in my M17xR1 as the driver support is quite bad, I cant use any external monitor correctly as it wont display and resolutions higher than 1280x720 correctly using HDMI but it does using VGA. Would swapping the card for say a GTx485m fix this issue? Also games seem to be geared for Nvidea a lot more and I think this would also help my FPS issues.

If you don't unplug the CMOS battery, the process is useless.

A better CPU will definitely help improve performance with the games you play.
If you lean towards nVidia, then I recommend a 580M. What drivers are you currently running?

Do you know anything about my HDMI display issue?

Following This Guide ive put the RGB LED 1200p screen in and upgraded my ram, Bought a can of air duster and blasted everything and it seem to have helped me gain 20+ fps in games (after blasting everything).
