    Hi,
All is in the title :hi2:

I would like to know if we can first upgrade the CPU easily (is the cpu soldered in it?)in a MX17R2 that has a i7-740QM at the moment?
And what is the maximum RAM we can put inside?
    Thank you

The CPU is not soldered onto the mobo. The best CPU upgrade you can install is the i7 920XM or i7 940XM Cpu.
For the maximum amount of RAM you can install 16GB of RAM.

    Cheers. :)

    thanks.
Can I not install a i7 3rd generation ivy on the motherboard?
To be honest, I would like to run 32 GB ram on the laptop. And the i7 3rd generation can support up to 32 GB ram.

Unfortunately you can't run anything higher than 16GB of RAM and the i7 940XM CPU in that M17x R2 Alienware notebook version.
The system bios does not support it. Also there are only 2 RAM Slots.

    Cheers. :)

This is completely true, it does not support anything above that (some users have actually had issues with the 16Gb config since 8Gb is the max officially supported). Also the Ivy bridge is not compatible, it does indeed have a different socket.
