    Hi all

this is my first post on these forums.
I bought my m17x R3 few days ago. It came with A04 bios installed.
I noticed that all the lights were wroking apart form the "ALIENWARE" text logo on the screen ( above the alien head logo).

I drained the battery like suggested in some other thread. I checked with alienfxtester ( all lights were up apart from the ALIENWARE Text)

So i decided that i will update to A08 bios and the i did a install of windows 7 ultimate.

Thanks to Batboys Guide i installed everything in order suggested.

    1. Light ( ALIENWARE logo ) still isnt working, other lights ok.
    2. When i boot up i have A WHITE SCREEN, if i close the lid and reopen ( standby mode) then i get a picture, as expected.

however then i noticed that i was using extended mode ( dont know why that was set by default), so i switch to "disconnect projector" using the FN+F6 key, and screen goes WHITE AGAIN ( completely WHITE). I do not have any external projectors/tv/montiors connected to this laptop.

SO i press then FN+F6 again ( couple of times ) and i can see picture again. However its back in extended mode. )

Please advise and see the picture a attached of drivers installed. both issues are bothering me.

2nd one more then the alienware logo.

    Kind Regards
    Jim

My system spec are as follows using Speccy (see attached images)

I don't own an R3 but judging from your pics it looks like your laptop is seeing another monitor for some reason.
Try and set your laptop monitor as the main one in the catalyst control center, under desktop management.

    Hi.

Thats right. It sees two monitors for whatever reason.

I have just updated the Intel HD graphics card drvers to the lastest verison.

I cannot find where to set the monitor to be the main

Right click on the desktop and select the Catalyst Control Center, then select the Desktop Management menu.

Try rebooting the system, and you mean you didn't see the desktop management menu inside the CCC ?

You need to completely uninstall both the separate Intel IGP drivers and the AMD Cat 11.8 reference drivers and do a clean install of the August 9 Dell 6970M driver package (R309894). Drivers and Downloads. The switchable graphics in the R3 imposes a different approach to driver installation and use. After installation of the Dell drivers you will be able to update to newer reference drivers, though not without some struggle for most users, but you will never update the Intel IGP drivers. I expect that once the proper drivers are properly installed, the desktop issues will disappear. If not, they can be easily addressed at that time.

I uninstalled the AMD 11.8 Ref drivers and used cc cleaner to ensure that everything was removed.

I left the Intel drivers alone and Reinstalled the Drivers from dell R309894

Now all seems to be working fine for now.

    Back to other issue.

"ALIENWARE" text above the alienhead does not seem to be working at all.

    ANy ideas.

    Thanks Iceforge and Revelator

Since the Alienware logo at the bottom of the screen bezel illuminates instantly when power is turned on, that is probably a hardware failure, perhaps as simple as a loose wire or a burned out LED(s). However, the same result could occur if that light zone was set to black in AlienFX, so check there first.
