    Hey guys,

I am having a big trouble today with my R3. For some reason I disabled the integrated graphics a while back so, today I went to re-enable them and made a mistake on the video configuration page. The computer powers up but i get no video on the display, hdmi, vga or mini-display port. I first tried removing the gpu and it was a no-go. Then I tried the BIOS recovery process and for some reason is not working for me and is not restoring the factory defaults. I get the spinning fans, activity light on my usb stick and about 20 something beeps, a restart, then another and then it powers off. After that, which means that the bios recovery worked, i turn it on and the same thing happens were i get no video.

Everything was working OK before i messed up the video settings, so no parts issue here.
My r3 was running the A08 Unlocked BIOS, or at least I still think it does.

I already tried all the methods I could find in the forum and still a no-go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If somebody happens to know if there is a jumper somewhere to load the factory defaults, or a key combination, please let me know

Replaced the mobo and still a no-go. Now I get the 8 beeps of death, so something must have gone wrong with the display or whatever. Will send it to the depot, let's hope that it doesn't turn into an horror story.

Any tips that I should know before sending it to the depot?
I will send it without my hard drives.

    Will keep you guys posted.

That's kinda strange - would have expected a new mobo to cure any bios settings you made? I take it you don't have a 120hz display model?

    • Remove the system battery + AC adapter.
    • Drain all power from system (Hold 30 sec the pw down with everything disconnected)
    • Plug back the Ac/adapter only.
    • Hold the “FN” key and without releasing the key, Power "ON" the computer. You will notice the system will try to turn "ON" and after 5 seconds will restart, at this point you can release the “FN” key.
    • If the steps above don’t work, proceed clearing out the CMOS settings.
    • After it posts, update the BIOS to the latest version. Then go back to BIOS and change the settings described on:

    Alienware M17x R4 and M18x R2 fails to POST with 8 Beeps

If it doesn't post after the steps I mentioned then send it to depot to have it fixed.

I have the regular 1920x1080 60 Hz screen. I figured that since the BIOS recovery process wasn't working on my original mobo perhaps the CMOS memory or the BIOS itself could have become corrupted. Hence the need for a new one. Apparently the 8 beep code is corrected by replacing the mobo, the screen or both.

Thanks, already tried doing all the steps. I also tried with and without the GPU. After the 5 beeps and the Fn key press it powers on and goes back to beeping 8 times.

It could be the CPU that's causing it, hopefully the depot people will be able to fix it in a timely manner.

Received my m17x today. It's back from the depot.

Must say, don't believe the horror stories. It came back in pristine condition, all screws are new and looks really clean. Even the box was in great shape.
Long story short, they replaced the Motherboard and Screen with new parts.

Yeah, it's working pretty good now. Just like new!

Hopefully, will stay that way for a good time. It still have to endure a processor upgrade that I have in the works.

Yeah, LOL sometimes they have to get it right!
