Hi guys I just recently bought my m17xr3 so far its nothing but headaches. Anwyways my problem is everytime I exit the a game I keep getting this black screen I have to do a hard reset to get it back up running.

I tried everything from reinstalling and tried different video driver its still doing the same thing. Have to do a hard reset every single time.

Can anyone please help me whats causing this before I return or just sell it. it is very frustrating and never encountred this before.

I had similar issue but it happened when I closed the laptop lid for few hours.

For me simply Fn + Adjust Brightness +/- key worked. My desktop used to resume back to normal once I do that. Sorry I dont know whether its F4 or F5 as im not at home.

I have experienced similar black screens, both the lock-up and the dark screen but otherwise functioning computer version, mostly with some versions of the 11.8 or 11.9 drivers, but also occasionally with the 11.10 Preview/Preview 2 sets. Fn+F4 usually brings the dark screen back to life. No cure for the lockup except a reboot. No specific cause or cure has been identified, though the fact that it afflicts some users but not others suggests strongly an individual cause or conflict. I suggest using the standard Dell 6970M or 6990M drivers, as applicable. I have never seen the blackscreen issue with the stock drivers, and they are generally solid and decent performers. Except for some limited increases in benchmarking performance, there is no real need for the later reference drivers.
