I was doing research on HDMI cables because my PS3 and Xbox 360 were displaying rainbow stripes on some games, most notably White Knight Chronicles on PS3 and Dragon Age II on Xbox 360.

I found out the HDMI cord I have been using is outdated, it was released in 2004 and has since been cancelled.

From one of the threads on this forum I found out the Mediabridge HDMI Ultra series worked with the laptop's HDMI In and would fix my problem with the colors while playing games. But I plug in the cord and hit Fn+F7 and it says Please Connect HDMI Input Device when my PS3 is on and I have the cord plugged into both the laptop and PS3.

The switch still works with my older cable, and I've tried changing settings in the PS3, but it doesn't make a difference. I also tried turning the Playstation 3 off and holding the power button for 5 seconds with the Mediabridge cord in, it doesn't detect the cord.

There's a sort of click when I plug it into my HDMI In port on my laptop, but the same thing doesn't happen with my Playstation 3. And I've tried making sure the cord is secure on both ends and it appears to be.

Is there something I need to do on my laptop? I've tried looking for HDMI In settings, but can't find anything for the life of me.

I have downloaded the most recent driver released by Dell for my Radeon HD 6970 card.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Also, I don't necessarily need help from someone that's used the same cable, just someone that knows about HDMI cables in general and why an older cable might be working and not my new cable.

    Here's a link to the cable I bought: http://www.mediabridgeproducts.com/...eed-HDMI-Cable-with-Ethernet-72p6.htm#details

Is the new cable working with other devices? You might have gotten a faulty cable.
