Hello, everybody. I'm hopefully going to be getting my R3 in a week or so, and I have some questions. right now my gaming computer is a desktop with a core 2 quad 6700 CPU overclocked happily to 3.4 GHZ, $GB of dual channel patriot DDR2, and a geforce 9800 GTX+ GPU. it's enough to pretty much own crysis on max settings at 1080P.
I'm getting an R3, with the i7 2720 CPU, 6GB of DDR3, the geforce gtx 460M GPU, and the 17.3" 1080P WLED display.
my questions are, I know the RAM, CPU, and MB will all outperform my desktop, and I know what Nvidia says about the stock 9800 GTX+ vs the stock GTX 460M cards, but what are the specs of THIS card? does it take kindly to overclocking? did dell mess up the cooling on the R3's CPU and GPU as bad as with the R2?
also, how is the 1080P WLED screen? does anybody know if they are edge lit or back lit?
edit: one more thing, does the second hard drive spot require an adapter like I've heard the R2 needs?
thanks in advance for any help given.

I see nothing mentioning the 460's specs, or performance verses a desktop 9800 GTX+, or whether they have improved the cooling.

I think what my slightly angered friend is saying
is that A LOT of people come here on their first post and ask questions that have been covered, sometimes, more than once. I read a lot and post little. I have not received mine yet, nor did I order the 3D version so I haven't paid attention to how it is lit up. I can tell you that the second HD bay DOES come with a cradle already. Also, according to everything I have read, there are no heat issues with the r3 and people were overall happy. Some have either propped the laptop up and/or re-pasted/padded the GPU to drop around 6-8 degrees C, just to help cool it more. I haven't read any issues of thermal runnaway yet
As for the comparison of the r3 to your desktop, the only thing I can suggest is benching your system with the same tools people have posted on here with thier r3 and compare them. Good luck!

The cooling is great but could be improved with Repasting. As for performance vs the 9800 gtx that I'm not sure of but here is a link to some stock and oc benchmarks of the 460m

Also the r3 comes with a second hdd caddy.

I wasn't referring to the caddy, I already was aware it came with that. I read somewhere the R2s need a 90 degree sata/power adapter? for the second spot.

thanks for the responses, so far. I've had most of my questions answered, except for the screen question. does anyone know if it's edge lit (similar to the ccfl screens, and like the ridiculously thin TVs), or back lit (some TVs have this and enable localised dimming to give truer black reproduction)? I know even if the panels are thinner the lid itself isn't as thin as other led lit laptops, so I'm kinda rooting for back lit with localised dimming.

thanks, do you know if the screen supports localised dimming and/or has a superior contrast ratio to typical ccfl screens?
