OK this is going to seem disgusting, but maybe not, only because I don't know what it is. I was thinking it was sweat or some type do disgusting layer that was on my touchpad LED but I noticed it was cracked or chipped. So I got a flat head screw driver and started chipping away at it and now my LED is ALOT brighter and much more clear. I've enclosed multiple images to perhaps show you what I'm talking about including images of the removed material.... If this has already been discussed I apologize. But I just thought I'd share because yes it looks better IMO now.It was all around the touchpad though, in a perfect square so I'm inclined to believe it's some type of layer that They (Alienware put on) I want it removed

So I take it no one else is doing this to theirs? LoL

Is that the plastic that you chipped away?!
-
Yes, its like a clear coat that's dark so when you chip it away it's brighter
-
The purpose of the coat IS to make it a bit less bright, so you don't get instantly blind when looking at it for more then 5 seconds
So yes, your finding is correct. Whether it's smart in the long run to have removed the matt plastic coating, I will not comment ^^ -
Coudln't you just use alienFX to shut if off if it's too bright and blinding you?
-
Are you getting glare on your screen after doing that?
-
-
Tried this last night after seeing this thread. You are correct that it is quite a bit brighter, although I haven't noticed much of a difference in glare on the screen.
-
Are You Glad you did it? I only did it because half of mine was already scratched off so I was trying to even it out.
-
Yeah, I actually am. It looks way more especially with a red theme. Although I did get a few micro scratches in the pastic underneath, but I don't really mind too much.

Sorry When I said Flat Screw Driver I meant like a Micro Flat Head Screw Driver
