    m17x R3: Received Win 7 update for acer display

    Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has had a Windows update for their M17x pop-up. The update is optional, and called: Acer S271HL. The only description it has is that it is an "Acer display software update". Release date 28/12/11.

    As far as I know the m17x R3's don't have Acer LCD displays. Is this a bogus update for this machine?

    The only external monitor I use is a TV which isn't an Acer.

    Hello and Happy New Year. Same problem here. I have received since yesterday this optional update regarding my display and I do not know if it is bogus or not. Pls mind that I do not have any external monitors attached to my rig.

    same, I installed it though, still dont know what does it do. Googled it found the result that its driver for screen, a bit confused

    Happy New year to you guys as well :)

    Yeah the "more" info link with the update sends you to some odd site. I checked the Acer website and the update is there, but it has no information as to what it is supposed to be improving. As far as I know the R3s have AU LCD screens (I think).

    I think I'll pass on this update until someone has some more info on it.

    Folks, it's always for the best to avoid useless Windows updates especially driver related.
