As the titles states... somethign screwy happened for no reason. My m17x would boot up like normal - all screens looked normal, but once it hit the screen to "log on", it went black. I could tell it was still running so I tried hitting "enter" to open up the box to log in... punched in my password and then the sounder played as it logged on. All I could see was the Alien-head background. So I did a "power-button-shutdown" and tried again.... same result.
This time, I logged on and I right clicked on my destop to view my video controllers and sure to my suspicions - it was acting like I was running two screens or something. It even showed up like I had set it up for two screens... like my crossfire card (Dual 1g crossfire x) was trying to run two separate instances of my desktop. Anyways, I think I got everything back to normal because I got my desktop back... and I haven't rebooted yet because I'm running a virus check, but here's my next problem...
Now, my cursor is moving to the right on it's own... wth does that mean? I've tried disabling my mouse pad, I disabled my mamba mouse and disconnected the docking station... I've done everything and it's still moving over. It's almost like someone has remote access over it - but it "blinks across" in a perfectly straight line and then dissapears tot he right of the screen no matter how many times I pull it back to the left... I know - crazy talk. Is it trying to act like I have multiple joined screens or something?
I've never encountered anything like this before. I did some seaching and it appears that others have had SIMILAR issues to mine linked to reolution or video cards or countless other problems... most chalk it up to a Microsoft problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? As far as I know everything is totally up to date. I just got the laptop about a month ago. I've checked for updates on everything and it all seems good unless there're some bios updates I missed... and I hate dinking with that stuff. Can't even remember how to check them to be honest.
Anyways... any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, after virus scan... nothing. She came up clean.
After reboot... mouse is working fine, but it took a really long time to boot windows. I mean, not "long"... but "long" for this machine compared to how fast it was running before. We're talking Win7 back to Win98, lol.
Tried booting Windows Live Mail and got an error message... telling me to redownload it or make my system had enough memory. Idk guys... wierd stuff. After I walked away for a bit and then came back... my mamba mouse wouldn't respond at all. Had to dissconnect it to get the cursor working again... had to use the mouse pad.
What is going on? -

Wow, all this time and no responses... everything was working fine for awhile, but it did it to me again today. Very annoying.
Ideas on how to fix this permanently? I keep getting error messages saying my display driver has quit responding... what's the deal, drivers seem to be up to date!? -

I found another guy with a similar issue on here and his thread is here;

I gave him instructions on how to temporarily fix the problem, but still looking for a permanent fix. -
