Recently my computer has begun to lock up when playing games after about 30 minutes of playing time. I suspected some sort of overheating so I downloaded CPUID Hardware Monitor to check the temperatures and the fans. Well the program did not detect any fans at all and I hear no fans power up when I play games. I only really hear the fans full blast when I turn the computer on and then they turn off. I hear a faint fan running the rest of the time. One of the GPU's gets quite hot (70+ C) and then my computer will just lock up.

Is there some sort of setting I am missing here? I flashed the most recent BIOS A06. I am running NVIDIA drivers 257.38.

Hoping for some help here. :)

I don't have the Nvidia GPUs, but with my ATIs 70°C is of no concern. You should be hearing more than the faint sound of a fan (which is the CPU fan) at 70°C though. I would honestly suspect the driver, or some other system issue. If your GPUs were overheating, you'd have some throttling issues. Your fps would drop suddenly until the GPU cooled back off, and then they'd go back to normal fps. This cycle would repeat.

That's not true at all....Where did you hear this?

When a GPU or CPU overheats the system hardlocks, it's pretty standard for this to happen. If it doesn't hardlock it usually reboots. Where you got your information from about the FPS going down until the GPU cools down is a mystery to men but that would actually be effective IF it were possible.

So after reading through the forums I decided to clean out the fans and heatsinks.

Now when I turn the computer on it says it is running on battery power even though the laptop is plugged up into the wall. Any ideas about what I can do to fix this?

As to my fan issues I tried several more times (before I cleaned out all of the dust) to play games and the fans never turn on. I left the computer running at the desktop and after 2 hours it locked up as well. I don't believe the fans are turning on when they are supposed to. Of course this is going to be harder to work on now that my power issues are here.

    Please help!

Apparently he hasn't. I thought it was pretty common knowledge. Anyhow, since Dax is only hitting around 70°C, I'm not so sure it's throttling either. Unless he's using a program that reads the temps incorrectly. Could we get a screenshot of HWInfo32 temps please?
