    hi all

the black screen only happens when i watch videos and sometimes during games, but the lights on my keyboard and speakers stay on and if u hear carefully u can hear a humming noise.
i have also noticed once that plugging in a new usb device has caused the screen to go back.

this is my 3rd motherboard replacement and 3 lots of 280m's.

ive spoken to tech support and now they want my laptop for a month!!!!

this is the list of things i have done.

format and reinstalled win 7 3 weeks ago.
installed all drivers from dell site (so the latest)
    ran diagnostics. (everything was good)
    disabled sli
tired 197.84 drivers after ccleaner in safe mode.

i aint got a clue in what to try or do next ??
i don't want to send my laptop away for a month.

    thank you
    mike

Sounds bad to be honest, MB failure or fried GPU.
    Have you checked your temps?

why disable SLI? Does this behavior happen when you have SLI enabled? If you connect an external display, does the same behavior present itself? If so, its the GPU(s). If not, focus on the display panel.

What about other drivers (other than 197.84)?

    try this one -
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.61 WHQL

the temps are good. but if they are getting fired why ? i don't overclock ?
it feels like the parts am having replaced are like a cheap version of them, i cant believe ive gone through 3 lots.

i was told by tech support to disable sli and test etc etc.
the ext display is blk to.

i have tried the all the drivers available inc 270.61 driver

While they warn you that sending it to them will keep it for a month, I found that it didn't take nearly that long. Fedex to them and then back to me was more like 2 weeks maybe a bit less than even that. It "could" take a month, but much like delivery estimates they tend to give you the worst case scenario for how long it will take and then improve on that figure in real life practice.
Because the tech ability "in house" is better I found you get a better fix overall. In this case where it is really bad, I'd say let them have a look at your machine. Probably just a mobo gone bad.

    so no real solutions ?
the black screens are random and happen alot. i hope they either replace the dam machine instead of replacing parts.

if i send it back i wonder if they will let me keep my ssd drives cos i really cannot not here for a week and reinstall all my apps etc.

Access BIOS menu(press F2 key when turning the machine on) and point to Graphic Settings there turn PCIe Gen2 to Disabled, do the usual stuff and report back, this might fix your problem.
