    ok so i have an m17x r1.
    i want to upgrade my cpu to an extreme edition quad core since that is the best cpu i can get for my machine.
    where is the cheapest place i can find this part.

    last I checked HP sells them for really cheap and its OEM. Go to the HP spare parts section and find what you are looking for.

    You may also try ebay or maybe some of the forum members here have one for sale. Alot of folks upgraded their r1s then sold them and got r2s so you may be able to find someone with a processor they want to sell. Good luck.

    HP stopped selling them cheap a few months ago. They were $505 for nearly a year but now are like $1800

    At this point the marketplace or eBay are you best bet for a QX9300. I always recommend only getting OEM chips but sometimes budget limitations will make an ES more appealing.
