Import system details (for this issue): Alienware m17x r2, 5870 crossfire, windows 7 home premium, BIOS A08 8/24/2010

Short answer: hit windows-p, left-arrow twice, then enter when at the black screen.

    Cause:
    (1) Diabled Crossfire (I play SC2 and Crossfire cause bugs such as units not showing up)
    (2) Put laptop into suspend (sleep). This is the default for closing the lid.
    (3) Disconnect power cable then reconnect (This is my norm for bringing it to work and back home)
    (4) When booting up (coming out of sleep), I get a black screen where I can move the mouse and see the cursor.
    (5) When I hold down the power button for 5 seconds and bootup again, I am still in the black screen mode.
    (6) When I power off the computer, remove the battery, then hold the power button for 20+ seconds, then boot back up, I am still in the black screen mode

    Work around (fix???)
(*) When I am at the black screen, hit windows-P, left arrow twice, then press enter.

Does anyone know a definitive fix for this?

Had similar issues until updating to A09, 8.763 Final and A01 VBIOS and setting my DDR3 voltage to anything other than 1.7V in the BIOS (Respect to Grim and others for thier assistance!). :D

All good now. Put the lappy into sleep at work ... came home ... opened the lid ... and ... the login screen appears. :D

The above also resolved the BSOD I got when upplugging the AC adapter.
