My r2's cpu (core i7 940xm) runs at about 71-80 celcius when idle and the fans are on full blast. is this normal?

Idle?? Is a virus scan running? idle should be 35*-50* depending on ambient temp

i updated windows and it started working better.
my cpu now idles at 56-around 67c still seems a bit high to me idk. but this was a replacement computer so maybe the thermal paste isnt put on very well. I'm satisfied with these temps for now.

Yes they are high temps for idle. What's your room temperature? this may be one factor. Also, what about your full load temperatures?

A 940xm need a good thermal paste job to work properly, i sugest you to repaste it. If you need help to do it, you'll find plenty of information on this forum.
