Anyone else think the sound is not up to par?

I thought it would be as good as, if not better, a creative soundblaster x-fi xtremegamer card

    but its terrible

Hmmm. If I'm blasting some music, I can easily hear it anywhere in the house, and it's crystal clear at any volume. I'm pleased with it. I know that an improperly installed driver will cause it to sound 'tiny', or have no sound at all.

if you are referring to the headphones output, then yes, X-FI will sound slightly clearer but the sound coming out of the speakers is excellent as TurboTalon mentioned. Would it have been better with a creative card inside ? probably yes, but i am pretty happy with mine.
If you're looking for better quality output, i suggest the Echo Indigo cards.

I have to side with Donnie7...the sound from the R2 does not meet the expectations of such a design and the price. I"ve certainly heard better sound from my Dell Studio XPS1640, and especially better sound from my HP HDX20 and HDX18.

There certainly isn't anything "special" about the speakers or audio in the R2, no high end anything, so mediocre is the best description I can give. I think the choice of not including a subwoofer in the design might be a mistake. It's a given that a laptop subwoofer doesn't shake the room, it does help fill out the bottom end a bit, plus adds a little boom to the laptop itself.

I feel that I cannot get the audio on the R2 loud enough. Listening to music through Zune software, with volume control on 100%, it certainly is not that loud.
