I just recently bought a new sound card for my desktop computer. And i was wondering. Would the m17x r2 benefit from and expresscard slot sound card?

or would a usb one be better?

edit: also how well is the onboard sound it comes with?

The R2 on board audio is fine for me, nice speakers too.

the standard IDT audio on the R2/R3 is very very mediocre. If you're not too much of an audiophile, its probably decent enough, but I'd go USB if you want to upgrade

You have less choice with expresscard, but there is more choice with USB. Sound quality wise, there should be no difference

OK so i did some research and i guess that the 5.1 is obviously better for a 5.1

and the x-fi HD is better for headphones. But what about a 2.1 soundbar? anyone know if there will be any significant difference between the two. i don't plan on using surround sound with my r2. thats what my logitech headphones are for.

I run a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 and then run the turtle beach Earforce DSS and have been extremely happy with it.
