yep. again.
was working fine yesterday. ended up installing another display. just today, I installed svl7's unlocked bios which went well, and then proceeded to install a dell 770m.
I did these steps here from eurocom's video and this is when the 8 beeps came back to haunt me.
• Disable the HD audio
• Set the primary display to PEG
• Disable Internal Graphics Device (IGD)
did all that. installed the 770m afterwards. was met with a familiar black screen but oddly, no beeps.
then suspected the settings in the bios were wrong, so I took the card out and bam. the 8 beeps are back.
here are the things I've tried:
1: reflashing the bios with svl7's one and the original. on the original right now.
2: clearing the cmos. 5 beeps, then after reset, 8 beeps
3: trying an msi 5870m but 8 beeps still persist
is it possible that the bios settings or the card itself bricked yet another display?
apologies for the creation of another thread. this thing is giving me nightmares and i just want to get it working.

yep. the card or the bios indeed bricked the new lcd. there goes $300 down the drain.
settings in the bios were reverted to their original working defaults before the error occurred.
i just plugged in my test 15 inch lcd, and the system boots. haven't tested the 15 with the 770m yet so i'll get back on that.
there was another guy having exactly the same problem as me here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m17xr3-8-beeps-of-death.723260/page-2
seems his problem was also caused by changing a graphic related setting in the svl7 bios.
so a heads up to future m17x r3/r4 users. if you install the svl7 bios and have an LG LP173 display, do not disable the IGD or play around with the powerxpress. It will brick your LCD and force you to repair the EDID.
also another heads up: if you have installed the svl7 bios and your system is bricked, blind flashing it to a dell one is not going to solve the problem.
so now I have to fix the EDID and i'm having a hard enough time with that already. guess if i get it fixed, i'll have two displays. -
tried the 770m and no luck. 8 beeps even with the 15 inch. remove the 770m and it boots with the 15.
the 8 beeps this time must mean the vbios. it is a dell 770m with original bios. the svl7 one must fix the problem, but i have no way of flashing the card because the system will not boot correctly with it. is there a way to blind flash the card?
on sg, it will post, but hang at the alien screen.
on peg it will 8 beeps. even with hd audio disabled.
with ig disabled on the svl7 bios, it starts, screen completely blank no backlight. power led turns off and fans rev up and down constantly but no beeps.
at this rate, i might give up. i don't have another mxm system lying around so i can't flash the svl7 vbios. tried shorting the vbios chip with the prema method and nearly took out the card and the motherboard. after inspection fortunately it just sparked and the spark caused a melting electronics smell. the card and the board are okay.
should i buy a firepro m6000? i'm wondering if that's plug and play. i'm not fit for all this bios stuffs.Last edited: Dec 30, 2016
